Not sure if this has been talked about on here (not going back pages to have a look, sorry mods if you have to move this).

In the Coventry Observer, Kevin Kilbane has explained that he told a fan to 'feck off' in the game V Crewe after the fan shouted just before a throw in 'you deserve to have a disabled daughter' towards Kilbane whos daughter has Down's syndrome.

I was there but admit i didnt hear this bit if it did happen i think alot of fans should be the ones apologising to him! Many made judgments about his actions without knowing the facts and i think most of those would have acted in the same way had they been in that situation with a disabled child!

Most of all i think that fan should be ashamed!

Seems the Crewe game attracted all sorts of behaviours as this was also the ballboy-gate game!

Having a younger sister with Down Syndrome I find comments like that utterly disgusting and embarrassing, if it is true that is.

If true and no reason to think it isn't, then he did well to control himself to just that. I would have been clambering into the stands and probably on an assault charge if I were in his shoes.

Funny, at the time people - some who didn't even go - were slagging him off. Glad he's come out and said what it was all about. Fans seem to think they can attack players and expect no reaction in return.

Was trying to post a thread on this last night and crashed it ,but IMO he was rightly justified with his response to that supporter ,but I thought he was anyway ,regardless of how inept the team were performing ,and they were ,if you dish it ,you have to be able to take it.

good on him for explaining it - between his subdued reaction to that abuse and retiring instead of running down his contract, KK has gone up massively in my estimations.

We all know hat happened when a fan bad mouthed Cantonas Mum, If I had a Down syndrome daughter that was being heckled as I was trying to my job there wouldn't be much left of the bloke. Fair play to Kilbane for keeping his cool best he could

My thoughts exactly! That fan got off lightly! Bet he wouldn't have the balls to do it to someone on the street!

Are you for real? You mean to tell me if you had a family member who was ill / disabled and someone made a disgusting remark about them you'd just say 'fair comment' and move on? I think not!

Anybody who gives abuse to a footballer and then can't take any back is a bit of fucking bender in my view.

Think you're a bit of a fucking bender.

Go crying now.

What gives any fan the right to abuse a player and not expect a comment back no matter what is said?

Being at the football is too often a cover for people to behave like twats. If you behave in a way that is likely to cause distress to someone, in public, then you can be arrested. Too many people think a football ground should be an exception for some reason.

Don't care how much players get paid, having to listen to abuse like that is not part of the job description.

i didnt say it was a fair comment, its a disgusting comment but the fan clearly doesn't know Kilbane personally so why would that trash mean anything to him. I'm sorry but players get payed lots of money to ignore it, stewards should be getting the cops involved more.

Yet everyone was going ape shit at Kilbane after the game, just shows people shouldn't comment on an incident without facts

Players get paid to play football

Fans should go to games to support their team

What happened to people taking responsibility for their own actions

Players get paid lots of money to play football, not have people say they're glad that the players daughter is disabled.

Always annoyed me when people give players abuse but turn in Victorian ladies when it's given back.

Pass the fucking smelling salts.

Why should they ignore it! So where would you draw the line? Say someone deserved to have cancer, deserved to have his spouse die? It doesn't matter how much they are paid its to do with mutual respect. So if someone abused a youth player who is not paid well its ok for him to respond as he doesn't get paid much!

You are taking total garbage.

Think more people were on his side to be fair.

But were a lot of people having a dig hence kilbane even apologised.

Kilbane is a top bloke and had an amazing career. What a shame his last few memories of playing football are of city fans abusing him, when basically he was taking the blame for a relegation before his time

Strange that no-one on here heard the alleged remark, no one has backed this up or suggested at the time it was something distasteful. I was a few rows from the front where his reply was aimed at, none of us heard that.

how many fans would have heard the comment and done nothing hey?

i'd have challenged the guy

i knew i'd get hammered for my opinion, but players cannot do anything that could incite a riot, the fault lays with clubs with useless stewards and security

the comment that people go to the game and think they can behave how they want is spot on, it can't be tolerated

You obviously don't agree with what was said which is good.

But surely it's the main responsibility should be on each person who attends a match not to act like a moron rather than stewards to do something if they do.

Does seem a very bizarre thing to shout out at a football match.

Not saying it didn't happen, but usually all fans can muster is 'you're sh*t' and *f**k off.'

If it did happen then Kilbane was quite right to answer in the way he did. Professional footballer or not, the bloke is human and you have to ask yourself what would you do if it was you and it was your daughter.

Would you just choose to ignore it? Could you just choose to ignore it?

It's not fair comment, but he shouldn't have reacted to such lowlife comments.

I don't think even the most restrained, media trained person would be able to ignore it. They might not all react how Kilbane did, but I can't see how somebody couldn't react.

You wouldn't ignore it you would naturally be very angry. I cannot see any reason why Kilbane would make it up.

For some reason some of our supporters hate older players if they struggle. Some of the abuse Colin Hendry received was vile.

To what end do you think he would use his own disabled daughter to explain actions most of us had forgotten about months after retiring? I believe him 100% - making it up would simply be pointless

Yes I agree. To make it up when the incident is long forgotten makes no sense. He seems a nice guy when I see him on sky.

If it was in the street you would clearly tell any such person to fuck off, if not chin them. But as a pro you are paid to ignore such shite - if it's really bad, like htis or racism, report it to the ref...but by the rules of the game he was out of order to send some abuse back to the fan...
