Couple of years ago we had a team very clearly with the potential to mount a play off campaign in the championship. It just needed strengthening into a squad that was capable

Instead during that summer SISU either allowed the key components to go or didn't adequately replace them if they had no choice. Making it not even an 11 capable never mind a squad

Now we find ourselves with an 11 that may be able to mount a promotion campaign.

They have done it on high energy high octane football.

As expected that have hit a bit of a stumble. Also now one of the key components is out injured.

If SISU want to show they have learnt their lesson, now is the time.

Two loan signings today.

3-4 loan signings/free transfers in January for the final push.

Dagnall in so first part of the 5 signings required (in my opinion.) is done.
Need a CB today. Hopefully Paddy as well.
Then a couple in January.
Then it looks like SISU will have learnt

Also quite a key time to assess Mr Preseley ability to sign players who improve the team.

So far he has signed Webster, Manset (who did not have the right attitude)
And Loza (whose club wanted him playing games)
We can't afford to waste time on signings that don't work out so hopefully the last two were a mere blip.

What was this team we had capable of making the play-offs then?

I would assume Dong means the squad we had in 08/09 although if we had a capable manager at that point...

And 2011 unless you think this 11 plus 4-5 players of similar quality were not capable of reaching the play offs

Westwood

Keogh
Wood
Turner
Cranie

Sheff
Gunnar
Clingan ( the way he was playing then)
Baker

Juke
King

Supplemented by

Bigi
Clarke
Christie
Platt

And 4-5 signings/loans over the summer of decent championship quality

What I do blame SISU for in these instances is not getting the right type of manager to take the club forward, for instance Coleman's style of play was horrific and we never going to succeed even though we had a competitive squad.

to be fair - gunnar excluded, that is a shocking midfield
Sheff - well passed it
Sidewards sammy
Pass to the opposition, or bring them down - Baker

Not at that time you are thinking now

Cling was quite effective and we struggled if he did not play.
Sheffield was not past it then

However that would have been the area to strengthen in your signings

So why did this team struggle in the depths of the Champonship then?

Nowhere near good enough to challenge for promotion, which is one of the reasons why it didn't.

lordsummerisle....................................................................... Nothing to do with...... Westwood....Let go. Keogh.....Sold Wood.....Let go Turner....Sold Cranie.....Let go Sheff......Admitedly past it. Gunnar...Let go Clingan....Not good enough Baker.....Decent player on his day. Juke...Sold King...Let go.............................................Not forgetting Dann and Fox....Sold after less than 9 months of the SISU reign.......In other words complete incompetence from the owners, of which, have done practically F**k all since either.

I thought we were talking about the Westwood, Dann, Fox team when Sisu first arrived. I'd agree with that, not sure Boothroyd's tactics would ever have lasted the season. His record elsewhere suggests not.

Sorry Dongo, Sheff was past it when he signed for CCFC the second time around, and sideways Sammy was never any good.

All those players you mentioned were all playing in the same team at the same time and just managed to stay up, so how could they be Play-off contenders in the Championship?

Dann and Fox were sold after a season and a half, not less than 9 months.

Clingan was a top Championship player when we signed him. Just have a look at our win % when he was playing compared with when he wasn't during his first two years with us: clearly our most important player at that stage. He lost interest when he was running his contract down, just like he did at Norwich.

lordsummerisle..............Dann's first game was as sub on 2nd Feb 2008 = 3 months in a season........Since when does 3 months equal half a season?...He played 47 games in total, which amounts to about erm, let me see now, errr approx 10 months of football. It was well into "Close season" when Dann signed for Brum.

Dongo's "Squad" was a decent team with the exception imho of Sheff and Clingan. Pity Coleman, Hoofroyd, and Thorn didn't have a "Jar of glue" how to play them, and SISU didn't have the Balls to invest in them.

Because Boothroyd played to the strengths of Stoke
This team was no stoke.

11 that could mount a play off challenge if you built on it. By adding 4-5 playing of similar quality plus those kids that came along the following season.

Agree boothroyds tactics were shocking that team was built for the football Preseley plays.

It needed adding to they had a positive end to the season once Boothroyd went.

That should have been built on

It sounds good but depends on the hypothetical 4 or 5? Even then they all need to be successful signings. A big ask.

There was a Southampton fan on 5 live the other week laughing they won even when Danny Fox was in the team.

Dann was a quality player, Fox was the Chippo to Dan's Hadji.

Memories are short. Baker was jeered and derided for 90% of his championship time.

The problem as you suggest of course is we ended up with thorn. That illustrates sisu's negligence more than any other thing they have ever done.

Never mind Fox, Dann, Chippo, Hadji comparisons....there are a host of questions for you on Judicial Review thread Grendel!

It can't be because it had the heart ripped out of it. The best players were sold or allowed to leave.
Yet you maintained they should have easily stayed up!
(When it suited you of course)
