Just seen his interview on Sky Sports News. He mentioned how he still want's to keep playing and want's to move to the championship next season, but hopefully not with birmingham city.

What a signing he would be, top notch striker. If we keep Marlon then those two would be a lethal partnership, providing neither get injured (phillips) or sent off (marlon). And providing Phillips doesn't ask for sky high wages.

it will only be feasible if SISU decide they can afford it. At 37 he won't be demanding a lot as at that age he just wants to play. I imagine a lot of championship clubs will be interested but maybe he wants to stay in the midlands?

Sure he could, he's as close to a proven goalscorer as you're likely to find, and there'd be no shortage of clubs who'd throw a chunky one-year deal at him if it saw them promoted.

Would be a terrific signing that's for sure, but with our current financial restaints, I can't see it happening.
Unless of course he says that he will play for a low salary, just for the love of playing football.

Teams know he can score regularly still at this level even at his age if they can keep him fit and use him right. I suspect one of the relegated teams on the parachute can afford a decent one year deal to assist their return. Probably Wolves would make sense to him.

If we could have Phillips, King upfront next season that would probably be the best striker partnership in the championship.

I think Juke will be much improved next season. A bit more expreienced, a little older, stronger and with a decent pre-season under him he could shine. If we could have one I would prefer to keep King over Phillips now. A few years ago I would have taken Phillips and as I said above I think he will do a decent job and will score goals , but Juke and King please.

A 37 year old wanting a step down to the championship for 1st team football preferably in the West Mid's couldn't surely demand massive wage's?

If it's all about the money, which I don't think it is, then maybe he would go for a modest wage if there was some huge bonus for Coventry getting promoted. This would act as an incentive for him to pull out all the stops and would leave him with a tidy sum if he was successful.

Need to be a bit more positive about this one. Playing alongside quality players such as King, McSheffery, Westwood and Gunnarsson, exciting times as well around the corner off the pitch apparently. At his age he would need to be realistic about wages. Mind you with our current strikers would he even get a game?

AS much as I like the guys qualities I think it would necessitate a change in current style to accomodate him. He isnt going to have the legs to do what King or Juke do in terms of work rate. To put him in the current set up you would have to play him where McSheffery is, because as much as the football is good it relies on the forwards working very hard and covering the ground. Also at 37 his pace is dropping and we have been crying out for more pace not less. Would you choose him or McSheffery?

On past record of course he is a good player but at 37 is he going to be a regular ? He wont want to come here and sit on the bench and we couldnt afford him to do that. I love the way Phillips moves in the box, it is a natural ability to lose the defender, find the right space and score but I think we need a little more than that. Without the workrate from everyone the system will break down and we cant carry someone on the off chance he may score. If we could afford and if we he wanted it then yes in the squad but starting 11 i dont see it.

My choice would be to keep King and Juke up front and McSheffery in behind them. I also agree with Rob about Juke and next season, assuming we get him some decent service.

Agree with the juke comment, think he will b the one to watch next season,, did u guys see that powerful run and shot he had where ashdown stopped it from finding the top corner? More of that please juke!

I tend to agree with the comments about Juke. I have always rated Phillips as a top striker and secretly wished he played for us, but now at his age, could he keep it up? And with the Jukebox improving by the game, who's to say what he will like come next season. I think City should concentrate on keeping King, McSheff, and Juke and really utilising their skills for next season.

All would take him on a 1 year deal on 20k a week minimum to make a push to get back to the prem straight away.

Brum wont let him go if they go down cause they will need him.


Forget about everyone else, lets just try and keep Marlon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't agree anymore with this sentiment. KP is at 38 next season well on his way to a slippery slope especially if asked to play 46+ games!

We have a very good and fast improving striker in the Juke and I would not swap him for KP. As long as Marlon stays we can dismiss talk of the likes of KP and James Beattie etc...

King, Juke,McSheff, Platt and Eastwood would be more than fine next season...

its VERY rare, (in fact I dontthink i have ever said this) that I believe that if we just kept what we had up front next season, with Thorn at the helm, we could give it a shot..

Phillips would still score goals, no question about it, and you can bet your life with him coming off the bench they would be matchwinners. All this talk of he's getting to old....so what? The man has looked after himself and just having him around helping the younger ones has got to be a bonus as well.

derbyskyblue there is a good point for what you say but I also feel now that with our squad what it is - mostly young then bringing in an old hand no matter how good he could be will be more disruptive than respectful to the players we have making them feel less valued.

I don't think SISU would find it worth while paying those kind of wages for someone to come on from the bench.
