Reads like it to me

INTERVIEW: Liam Kelly Stoke City Preview

Sky Blues club captain Liam Kelly reflected on an injury-hit year, but one that he evaluates positively due to City’s success on the field.
www.ccfc.co.uk

As an aside I don't have any recollection of him doing a cruciate as he suggests??

I think you're right actually... Although he doesn't sound like someone who has been told he's surplus to requirements anyway

Did his PCL (as opposed to ACL) when he collided with the post last season I believe.

The guy just can’t stay fit long enough.

At least with Godden it’s similar but we still get a fair return out of him. I just don’t feel we do with Kelly

I'd personally be happy keeping the same midfield from this season with Eccles pushing through for a place in the first team and Kelly as a backup.
Much rather strengthen in other positions

If he is really on the wages suggested then we have little choice

Thought we might come to an agreement with him and pay him to move on. Has not looked up to it at this level and we need better to push on in my opinion.

Kelly has been a great player for us but now has little part to play with the likes of Sheaf , Hamer, Allen and Eccles ahead of him.

He is useful to have around but if he left to get more football time in League One I wouldn't be too bothered.

Ideally we’d be looking for mutual termination.

When we were struggling last season, he was an important first team player who added a lot to a young and inexperienced team who lacked confidence.
It’s a bit harsh to judge him on this season when he’s barely played, but feel he would’ve struggled to get game time even if he was fit.

I think a L1 contender would pay a small fee for him.

It's his contract that is the issue.

'Ideally' a league one club like Sunderland who can pay big wages would come in for him and if would not cost us a penny!!

If reports on his salary are right we over rewarded him with his last contract. Had he been on smaller numbers I would have favoured keeping him around the squad, as despite some deficiencies in his mobility, he doesn't often let anyone down.

We need a larger squad next season that is as strong as possible throughout, we’ve been caught out this season with a threadbare squad which is probably why we didn’t make the top six, 5 subs too. Kelly is ideal back-up for the regular midfield and we know what we get with him. if we let him go he will need to replacing.

That was classed as a non-football injury said at the time I believe to be like a car crash injury nothing to do with being injury prone, pure bad luck.

Thing with Kelly is the wages he's rumoured to be on. If he's just going to be a back-up, we could probably get a first-team for similar wages or two back-ups. I've got a lot of time for Kelly, but there is a question as to whether it's the most efficient use of the wage bill.

The guy came from a relegated league 2 side whilst we were in league 2 ourselves. He's had 2 contract extensions since been here and I assume some promotion bonuses. But the idea he's top 3 earner which people are spouting on here has to be bollocks and its damaging because everyone now wants him out because of it.

Is he good enough for our starting 11 now? No.
Will he do a job when required? Yes
Is he worth keeping around for 21 games in 2 months or whatever it is next season. Obviously yes.

Stop trying to shift squad players that can do a job but aren't top 6, because next season when hamer has pissed off and we're stuck with back up of Shipley, allen or ngandu, we're gonna wish we had Kelly still around

No he didn’t. Kelly was instrumental in our staying up last season personified by his performance in the crucial game at Rotherham. No coincidence that in the games he played we picked up far more points than in the games he missed.
This season he really hasn’t been able to put any great run of games together due to illness and injury. He still showed his value in games such as Blackburn away ( driving the team on in the second half to come back from two down with his tremendous shot against the post turning into an assist) and Bristol City at home where his perfectly timed and weighted pass provided the assist for Godden’s winner.
Funny how Robins keeps picking a player who is out of his depth.

It’s nothing personal, we’ve outgrown him. You’re acting as if we would let him go and not bring a replacement in. If we are to progress in this league we need to leave sentimentality at the door. If his rumoured wages are to be believed then we could attract a far better player to fill that gap in the squad.

And tbh, the itk who you mention shouldn't be coming on a public forum discussing player wages. I love his little team leaks and any transfer inside leaks but player wages should be kept away from our knowledge, shouldn't it?

Top of my head he got the volley off the post, back of keepers head in the equaliser at Blackburn, cross for goddens goal away at Bournemouth and assist for godden last minute against Bristol. More assist contributions than Allen, Shipley or Jones and probably waghorn and that's not even his game.

If Kelly stays then fine, he's gotta prove he's worth a place in our squad and he's got to stay fit.

If Kelly goes, fine, he's 32 and earned his status as a bit of a cov hero who's helped dragged us up from the shite.

Personally I like Eccles and hope he now steps up but I'm worried about his injury record. Freak injuries or injury prone?

Eccles is at the age where unfortunately you get these injuries. I’m confident he will grow out of them.

Anyway Kelly is the epitome of injury prone

You shouldn’t be offering players deals for loyalty - Shipley has also been on our
journey as well so give him a new deal
