The other point to this is, we all accept that players improve over time, yet the same courtesy is rarely afforded to managers. It's pretty obvious that Lampard has learned a lot & become a better manager now than before & he says as much himself.

Brendan Rodgers said the 8 months he had out between the Reading & Swansea jobs were the most important of his career. He was able to properly reflect on what had worked in his previous jobs & what he needed to improve, while studying the new trends in football. He then started playing more progressive possession football ahead of its time at Championship level

I think the year out Lampard had has done wonders for him. He's developed his tactics. He mentioned working with Thomas Frank at Brentford and studying how Villa/Bournemouth build up & press - and you can see these influences in how we're playing

In all honesty if Lampard did leave it would be a blow but the caveat of that is no one expected Lampard to do as well as he did maybe bar Doug.

Im sure Doug would get the next one right as well.

Frank is a bright fella. He was kind of written off after that 2nd stint at Chelsea. The media were begging him to fail it seems. What was blurred, is the fact, he got Chelsea Top 4 with a transfer embargo in his first season, and kept Everton up against the odds also in his first season. Not forgetting a Play Off Final with Derby. He then tasted, first-hand the ruthless world of football management. Both teams had poor starts to the following season and he was gone. the 2nd stint at Chelsea was almost fire-fighting and was a bad choice. The sense of pride he must be feeling now. Going to Rangers? What a joke. Even if he's successful there, it will only be domestically, and no big, or established Premier League club will be convinced by that (look at Gerrard at Villa). He'll want, and need to achieve something here first. Promotion, and most probably keeping us in the league.

Yeah, the flexibility in how we set up, variation in tempo etc. has surprised me this season. Impressed with the work he seems to have done in pre-season.

Very little thought going into their managerial appointments. Can't see him faring any better than Martin to be honest if he's appointed.

His career has regressed massively since his first stint.

He did a thing on talk sport about his son signing for our academy and I think he mentioned living in Rugby on that. He met his former wife when he was at Villa and I'd guess that Rugby is well located for staying close to the kids while being able to get to London easily.

Lampard does not need the money. He is seriously minted.
Every manager wants to manage in the PL and Champions League. I think Chelsea came too soon in his career and Everton were struggling with a poor squad.
Rangers guarantee Champions League football, at least for a couple of games.
If Lamps has any sense, he will see how far he can take us, and if successful, move up the football ladder.
There are clubs who are more successful than us and bigger, but we are yet to reach our full potential.
I think we have greater potential than many mid-ranking PL clubs, just enough money.
That said, look at Leeds, a massive club that walked the Championship and are now losing to those aforementioned Mid-ranking PL clubs.

I'll never get the "he doesn't need the money. He's already rich" line. Even the super wealthy are driven by money. Otherwise, why are Jeff Bazos and Elon Musk still working? And they're in a different league entirely to FL.

Yes, he's got millions in the bank, but unlike us mere mortals who have annual bills in the thousands and living costs in the tens of thousands, his will be in the 100s of thousands and maybe some more. He's only 47. Living the kind of lifestyle he'll be accustomed to, his millions won't last forever. Sure, he might not spend it all in his lifetime, but if he stopped earning money tomorrow because "he's already got enough" and carries on living, the pot he leaves his kids will be significantly lower.

It depends on what drives you forward in life. Putting 2 of the most power crazy people against a football manager?

Being a winner is what drives Lampard. The reasoning of Lampard not needing the money is that to him winning is more important than going to a different football club because they offer him an extra 10k a week. Half a million extra a year is a lot of money to most people but once you take the tax off it's much less. And for what? He doesn't need the extra money and he would be leaving a club where he is enjoying every minute and are going places together. A team playing exactly how he wants them to with the players he needs, supporters he constantly praises and a chairman who backs him all the way.

Or he could leave what he has built here to start again at another struggling club for what to him would be a payrise he doesn't need at a risk of getting the sack if he doesn’t turn things around.

That's the difference.

What's the challenge north of the border...such a small league playing the same teams over and over again in the same season.. with the only real interest being to beat Celtic .. dull..

There was talk of the SPL merging with some of the Scandinavian leagues some time back, wouldn't of been a bad idea

Haven't read the thread but, I really can't see him leaving to go anywhere else right now. When you weigh it all up, we have a fairly laid back owner who seems to know his limitations, and wouldn't get involved in the playing side, he's willing to invest and bring in players, willing to hold out for top money for our current players. King is playing a blinder behind the scenes on the face of it. Just look at the mess most prem clubs are in. If he got off too a slow, he could be jobless again 6-8 weeks time. I think he'll stay here and try to build something, he still has a lot to prove in football management.
