Kepa Arrizabalaga: Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper pays £71m release clause ahead of Chelsea move
Interested to know where he got the money (£71m) from in the first place to buyout his contract?
Could it be Chelsea gifting him it, he takes out a loan or something else?

“In Spain a player must buy himself out of his contract, which was announced by Bilbao on Wednesday.

This is usually done by depositing the amount of the buyout clause with La Liga - Spain's equivalent of the Premier League - to release the player from his contract. The league then passes the money to the selling club.”

So yes chelsea give him the money.

its quite a shifty way of making sure the buying club pays the fee in one lump, rather then instalments and add ons etc

Ya see, I didn't read that, that Chelsea would give him rhe cash first, it doesn't actually say that!
For instance, Kepa could just pocket the cash and not pay La Liga!? Ha.
