The long running crisis surrounding Coventry City FC (CCFC) will today be the focus of a Parliamentary debate (Tuesday 22 October, Adjournment Debate, 4-4.30pm, Westminster Hall) led by Coventry North East MP Bob Ainsworth, with support expected from other Midlands MPs.
CCFC are playing ‘home’ fixtures 35 miles away in Northampton, which the vast majority of fans are boycotting – on Saturday, over 3,000 City fans travelled to the away game at Wolverhampton, a figure far higher than the total attendance (including visiting fans) at any CCFC game in Northampton. Mr Ainsworth has previously used Early Date Motions to raise strong concerns about the situation at CCFC and the involvement of the Football League, Administrator Paul Appleton and CCFC owners SISU Capital hedge fund.
Ahead of today’s debate Mr Ainsworth has placed in the public domain more than a dozen documents relating to Coventry City Football Club Limited which is now in liquidation and its parent company Coventry City Football Club Holdings (documents available at http://bobainsworthmp.wordpress.com/).
Fans from the Keep Cov in Cov (kcic) campaign have welcomed the Parliamentary debate and some are travelling to London to hear what is said. kcic is calling for different CCFC supporters groups to unite and back calls for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee to undertake an Inquiry into Coventry City as a case study of problems facing English football. kcic Co-ordinator Michael Orton said: “Coventry City is being torn apart and no other set of fans should ever have to go through what we are suffering. Unity among Sky Blues supporters is vital and an Independent Inquiry calling to account all those responsible for the mess CCFC is in is an important way forward. Today will help build the case and support for such an Inquiry”.
reading some of the papers bob has put on the administrator cannot be right as ccfc holdings did not in 1995 hold the golden share or players reg as they were transferred to ltd what a can of worms
