I know he's non-league, but we have had no money and have looked odds on favourite to drop a division anyway.

Name: Liam Hearn
Nationality: English
Date of Birth: 27/08/1985
Height: 5' 11" (180cm)
Position: Striker

The highly-rated striker signed for the Mariners on a 3-year deal during the summer of 2011.

Following long negotiations with the player and his agent, the club have fought off stiff competition for his signature and he agreed to come to sign for club.

The prolific frontman scored 45 goals in 76 appearances for his previous club Alfreton Town.

His form earned him a call up to the England C squad and an extended contract with the Reds, signing a deal with them until the end of the 2011/12 season.

Liam picked up both the top scorer and player of the season for the Blue Square Bet North division last season.

So far this season he has 3 hat-tricks.

If we go down we need to discover some lower league gems.

Hearn is a gritty player alright and has been highly rated for some years. I imagine AT will be aware of him. Problem is of course that he hasn't done any more than Robbie Simpson did; Cody was prolific at a level above his, Freddy and ROD at 2 levels higher. He may prove to be the next Steve Morrison, but it is certainly a gamble. We tend to write off non-league players here with cries of "He's not a Championship player", so we probably aren't the sort of club he'd flourish at. If we're looking at that level, I think I'd prefer Adam Boyes as he's younger.

But when we sign players from divisions below us all the idiots start spouting rubbish about buying lower league crap, there's a reason why theyre in a lower league etc etc

It's lower league that we're heading though isn't it. Any player that gets 40+ goals in 70 odd matches needs to be given consideration.

You buy lower league players normally younger and on the way up in their career if you buy prem players they are more likely to be old and on the way down in their career.

There are non-league players who break through late though.

Like Paul Culpin did at the Boro back in the 80's.

Paul Culpin stepped up from non league to the top flight though. The next guy would only have to step up to League one where the gulf is not nearly as great.
