if we keep or are able to replace our best players and secure the funds to purchase the higgs half of the stadium then i agree but not going to get to carried away just yet

Good results lets hope we can build on this next season with the SAME team and a few more additions. I suppose this goes to show what we are capable off again and that we should play for 95 mins!!!

Agreed, however we have drew too many games 5 draws in the last 10.

We have been unlucky to only win 3/10. We should have beat Derby, Scunthorpe, Reading and maybe Burnley. If we could have finished teams off/defend properly we could have finished in the top half

Draws are better than losing though. But i do agree we need to make the draws into wins, and ultimately finish teams off!!

lets see how we go when the pressure is on in a new season and how we line up before we get to excited. Otherwise we will be demanding resignations when our over inflated expectations aren't met as usual.

We will pretty much have a brand new team in theory next season. With McPake, Turner, Deegan, Osbourne all returning.

But with only two losses in ten games, thats better than when Aidy first came in to power, and better than when Coleman and Dowie and Micky Adams all became the gaffer.

The future IS bright, the future IS sky blue. ATSBA!!!

And do you remember what kind of run we were on before those ten games? For Thorn to come in with no management experience and get those results with that type of play is unbelievable. Agree with macca though, let's see next season.

The boss has done all that could be asked of him. I am still interested how this group of players perform under pressure (sorry for going on about it). Just seems to me that when the pressure was on (when we had a play off shout) they went to pieces. But at the end of this season with the bottom 3 not putting any kind of run together and leaving us comfortable they played well.

Agreed he has done a fantastic job and if we keep playing like this the results will follow.

It's just that I can't help feeling frustrated when we throw points through poor finishing/poor defending. What I am saying is the results we have had are not a true reflection on the quality of some of our performances

With a bit of ambition in the summer we could do something next season

The only problem is those players will probably all be injured after 3 games!!

Agreed, we've deserved more but at least the signs are there. Not your typical Coventry end of season!

Just theoretical but if you transpose AT's 10 match run as achieving 14 points from a max of and had maintained that form for all season we would have had 64 points and finished 12th !!!

That would have put CCFC 11 points behind play off Notts Forest 75 points - it just shows how much we need to uplift for next season even with AT at the helm.

First line should have read "from a max of 30 points" - silly me

Good stat which kind of confirms to me that with a good manager (AT) this team could move forward from this year into 10th-12th but not play off candidates currently.

I'd take a 9 point improvement

those 2 defeats were due to last min goals so it could have been 10 unbeaton

we have certainly been a match or more for every team we have played under thorn

if we can do that next year i expect 65pts minimum

I would love 65 points and mid-table - that would be real progress. Unfortunately the plans have been set and the agenda that is needed to halt the slump means however great that achievement is, it won't be enough for SISU and I fear that if we're not contending, even on a shoestring budget, then next season they will feel it's time to pull the plug and fire us into admin. Apologies to be the doom and gloom merchant but they will be expecting a miracle worker without investment.

thats true but at same time i feel this current squad can challenge

the likes of bell, baker, hussey, juke have all been written off by some cov fans in the past but now they are palying their hearts out, maybe theres hope for all of them yet?

if we can keep the big 3 id expect this current team to look for top 10 minimum, but with investment who knows what thorn could do.

I had been guilty of writing off Bell myself so I can't disagree with that and he does like like a new signing as will those returning from injury. I still think Baker is too lightweight but did have his best spell in his favoured spot so we'll see. Definitely not a winger and that was probably a large part the problem. The Juke I liked from day one and Hussey I always wanted to see get a run in the side (expecially when O'Hallorhan was so poor). I agree that we can be up there if we can keep the three but that imo is very unlikely.

to be honest I would settle with a seaon of being entertained for once !

I am wary of saying we should expect this or that but the way we have ended the season does give the club some momentum and optimism for next season. AT has set his stall out very clearly as to how he wants his team to play but other teams will find ways to counter that. Equally what happens when we have a bad run of results under AT, that to me is the test and hasnt happened yet.

I am not expecting to keep any of the 3 "stars" simply because they can all get better deals elsewhere. How AT builds his squad will be important, but it still comes back to how the club is backed financially. SISU are not going to be that flexible with their wage budget (rightly they need to stabilise the finances) and we are putting a lot of reliance on AT being able to inspire the team as a whole to exceed their individual skills ..... what happens when AT has a down time? (it will happen). Dont think I have any more expectation than to do better next season..... yes aim for promotion but it is a hope more than an expectation. If we get 64 points + I think that will be a significant step forward

However despite being cautious ....... i think it is right at this point to favour the current optimism ...... what will be will be with many twists and turns over the summer..... hope people dont over burden AT with expectation though

Something to iron out then as last minute goals still count as much as if you conceeded in the 75th minute

Baker and McSheffrey is good competition for places in the same position though. I think Baker could be huge for us but you're right that a lot of the time he's just not strong enough. Re: Hussey - what were Coleman and Boothroyd looking at in training, ESPECIALLY when we didn't have a left back?! I know he was injured for quite a bit but he was definitely fit in a lot of the games as well and both CC and AB left him out. It's just a bit weird when you actually see how good he is now just from a little run in the team.

Every since Hussey came to the club he's been my favourite player. All my mates said he was shit and won't make it in to the side. But he has got great features. Next season he's going to come back better and dominate it down the left wing. Coventry City's Gareth Bale.

GK:we need 1 goalkeeper if westy goes

CBs: we have laods and some are very good,my positioning would be crainie, turner, keough, mcpake, wood

RB: keough, crainie, clarke(jury still out on the lil one)

LB: o halloran, hussey(both still havnt played much,o halloran isnt as bad as some fans think imo,but maybe thorn cant take the risk)

DM: clingan, carsley, deegan, gunnar(but need a playermaker too so need back up for clingan there really, sell carsley?

CM: gunnar,deegan,bell-sell mcindoe and get some quality in

AM: baker,mcshff-2 should be enough i think for this role, eastwood could do it if needed

CF: king,eastwood,,juke-keep juke, eastwood and king, sell platt(even though hes done well for us) and o donovan and get 1 more striker in who fits our system

so i estimate if big 3 sign contracts we definetly need replacements for mcindoe, platt,o donovan imo, maybe a RB too as keough/crainie are both class in the middle

but overall we have quite a deep squad now which i think can compete, but if thorn can buy 2-3 players then things could be looking even better as we must replace what we have got with better players otherwise its not worth doing.

WERE GONNA WIN THE LEAGUE!:thinking about:

Can see your thought process cc4l......

Carsley is out of contract end of June so we cant sell him..... similarly isnt McIndoe?

I would move Wood on and include Cameron in the list of Centrebacks instead, maybe put him out on short term loans so we can get back easily but he gets playing time. The lad is going to be a good player and needed to be rested this season at times and circumstances meant he wasnt. Camerons form suffered because of it. Dont think anyone expected the lad to play 22 games stepping up from the academy

To be fair I dont think Ohalloran has had a decent run in the team yet but what I have seen I dont rate. He is out of contract this summer. Think we are still shorter at LB than RB

Personally I wouldnt keep either Platt or Eastwood. If I really had to choose between the two I would probably take Platt. He is at least different and does work hard in his limited way. Eastwood has had enough chances and his recent attitude has sealed it for me..... i would give him a free just to get his wages off the books. ODonovan obviously doesnt fit and needs to play so he goes.

There is something like 9 players out of contract this summer....... a lot wont stay...... will reserve judgement as to how deep the squad is until we see what it is next August

Admire your optimism ...... but you know I am more cautious than that

yeh sorry when i mean sell i just mean get off the wage bill

i still think freddy can work under thorn,i wonde rif he will get the chance though

yeh sorry i forgot cameron,id put him ahead of 50p head wood, guy cannot head in a planned direction lol,not sure he has passing attributes to gel in new formation, saying that he is a battler and scores more than our other CB bar turner

i think 4 out 4 in minimum is a realistic target
