I always feel a bit miffed at Man C playing in what I consider our colours!! For that reason I'd be reluctant to see a major switch....We would have to remain The Sky Blues as far as I'm concerned, but a change of kit, not too drastic with a flash of sky blue there somewhere, would be interesting so why not....

Rebranding just for the sake of it I would against, if rebranding was a clincher to a deal with some new filthy rich owner I could take it.

Which was exactly my point. Unfortunately everyone has seemingly gone off on a tangent.

It just occurred to me that if an American was interested and if there was truth in this bloke wanting to buy us, Americans are known for their obsession with stuff like branding and brand identity.

My whole question was, if a new owner would only buy the club if we re-branded would you accept it!!

That seems to have got lost though.

I know I suggested us going back to sky blue and dark blue stripes and even that didn't go down too well.

I'd be all for that, I loved those Le Coq Sportif/Subaru days. My ultimate preference would be for a hummel 1988 revival, mind you. One day I will have that shirt.

Of the last 130 years, just 9 of those years saw CCFC with no blue at all in their kit.

Also 73 of that 130 years has saw us playing in Sky Blue. To suggest that it was an invented colour by Jimmy Hill is ridiculous.

To be fair Coundon, no-one has suggested Jimmy Hill invented the sky blue.

I am very familiar with all our kits throughout our history. The point is that between 1924 and 1962 we only played in white or white and dark blue. 40 years. No sky blue. We were The Bantams, not the Sky Blues.

Jimmy Hill ripped that all up and started again. That was exactly my point. We changed things after 40 years. No-one is saying Jimmy Hill invented this. He merely reverted back to a bygone age.

Yep. Love this kit. this kit I would be really, really happy with. Think stripes always look good and it's still got loads of sky blue in it.

Love this one too.

And you are also referring to this one I believe ...

I find it strange that some people would be okay with the club starting again in the lower leagues but would kick up a fuss about a change of kit.

I couldnt give a toss what colour kit we play in. Generally our all sky blue kits have been shit. I always have visions of David Rennie in that god awful kit from about 94 95.

I preferred the Huckerby Boateng kit of the more recent era but I'd play in red if meant being top of league like Cardiff.

True.

Personally, I would always want to be Sky Blue but any new owners (particularly if they are from overseas) could do what they like. We wouldn't have a say. And yet, some who have declared their shock at not playing in Sky Blue support getting rid of the current owners even if that means tumbling down the leagues. Can't fathom it out sometimes.

The original sky blue kits of the late 19th century were a recognition of the citys blue dye manufacturers. JH wanted the club to have a strong identity, sky blue created the link between the City and the club. I could stomach a change to red and/or green as it still links the club to the city.

If a rich owner came in looking for a play thing, he would only invest if he could call us the Coventry Comets and we'd play in fire colours, he wanted to buy the stadium invest in the surrounding area, building a resturant, pubs, and had pledged to invest 10mill+ in new players in league one and more when we get promoted. While it would be bitter sweet over all I think I'd be happy.

Of course the less impressive the deal gets the less impressed I'd be with rebranding. As long as we are in Coventry and we have Coventry in our name I'm happy. Ideally I'd want to stay the sky blues of course.

I'd hate to see it happen. I suppose there's ways of going about it, but when CCFC tried to change the badge, IIRC they didn't say anything and just started printing it on leaflets etc?

It saddens me that football is so revolved around money that people are prepared to see everything change to please an owner. I'm not saying that everyone who said "yes" is wrong or anything, because it would be almost impossible to say no. It's just sad that footballs gone that way.

The badge though just looked cheap and crappy. If they had conjured up something decent fans might have been a bit more onboard with it.

Yeah it looked like a crap version of the Leeds badge. If I had to choose one thing to save if this rebranding stuff did happen it would be our badge. To an outsider, it must look like the drawings of a maniac.

Some of the buses have that burgundy and cream colour scheme again, is that some kind of city colours? I wouldn't mind that for an away kit one season.

If it meant enjoying a bit of success then it wouldn't bother me. It's not like we owe the sky blue colour anything for supplying us with a wealth of throphys. Red and green is on the city's coat of arms so why not?

Definately my favourite!! I love that kit. A rebrand to that would be awesome IMHO.

However, my feelings on rebrand are that it should only be done with a gun to our head. I cannot, for one minute entertain the though of standing on the terraces and chanting "Come On You Reds" or going to a Cov match/watching highlights of City and not hearing "that" song. But I would, if I had to.

The red and green one from the early 1920s is also quite dashing. Then again those are the same colours used by the council so can't see it going down well on here.

Coventry City Council - I believe the colour scheme they use is "Annoyingly Blue"

Re branding does not affect the history.

It's a commercial exercise. New kit, new nickname, new abstract lettering on the Arena or whatever. That's all it is.

I'm for it big time. Jimmy Hill did it so why not again? Time for change in this area. Certainly drop the insipid Sky Blue kit and name 'Sky Blues'.

Change it to what? I don't know but ideas could be put forward and supporters who attend matches vote on it easily. Otis is right we have been associated too long with failure now with out only ever success 1987.
