Sunderland keeper yesterday would have been blamed for both by our fans

Why would he? Face it Burge has been shocking for weeks and for 70% of his time here (and that is being generous) he has been awful

If he can catch a cross that two foot above his head that will be progress. Burge has been crap and made game changing errors many times this season. Why do we accept such crap?

Burge can stop a shot generally and good in 1v1

He can’t judge a cross however and even when he does he flaps

That I would say is how 50% of recent goals conceded have come from

Burge shouldn’t be dropping crosses. Thomas shouldn’t be missing open goals. Both as basic as the other. Would sooner see the back of Thomas.:emoji_thumbsup:

At 0-0 a striker misses its still 0-0, the keeper fucks up its 0-1 and points dropped, Burge has fucked up way too many times this season to justify being kept on.

I’m beginning to almost disagree with what I originally said. Robins should definitely go out shopping for another GK. I just think we could do better than Luke Thomas too. Burge certainly has made one too many mistakes now, too many to just shrug off. But I just can’t help think about all those golden chances that went begging for Thomas to finish. There’s at least 10 goals there. At least. Chaplin has missed a hatful of chances. As has Hiwula. It’s all contributed to what could have been an even better season.

Without our front scoring goals, that alone puts pressure on the back. In no way does that justify goalkeeping mistakes, however.

I am just totally against concentrating all the blame on Lee Burge. Even without his mistakes, our goals to chances ratio is far from deserving of play offs.

It's all down to his eyes according to one poster and watching all his bloopers you would have to suspect there may have been something in that post. Mind you he saw the arse of the Worcester forward he kicked to get sent off a couple of years back. Liability I'm afraid, good riddance !

How many howlers have opposing keepers made against us? One every 10 Burge mistakes? I seriously can’t think of very many this season.

If any scout has recommended Burge to there club he will either have changed there opinion of him and took there interest elsewhere or will end up getting sacked as a scout.

First thing a scout will have to communicate is what Burge is good at and what the lads weaknesses are. There are way too many weaknesses in his game for a higher placed club to take him in unless, it’s as a third choice keeper and Burge is happy to accept that with a salary increase. No way is he anything but a bang average goalkeeper that is error prone and in my opinion not mentally strong enough for professional football.

I can’t remember any keepers making mistakes this season Burge how ever I lost count months back.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up without a club at Nuneaton

Really.
Wow so according to all these professionals on here we are where we are, due to one player yes he made mistakes but so have many others.
A defender not marking his player a midfielder giving the ball away, even a striker not scoring after all how many one on ones has this team missed must be double figures.
We have a mediocre side that have done better then most of us expected we finished 6th last season so to finish 8th in a higher division this season is brilliant.

Never mind we can find another player to take all the blame next season.

That’s not the point. The point is we’ve played 48 games against league 1 teams, including cups and I can hardly remember any errors by the opposing goalkeepers leading to our goals. Meanwhile Burge, in 40 league games has made countless errors leading to goals conceded.

But other goalkeepers have played 44 other games than us. That’s really not a valid argument. 1 or 2 games against us they didn’t make a mistake, wow.

I’m sure there was more than one team Burge didn’t make a clanger against as well!

It's not just the blatent bloopers, the lad just doesn't boss his area and as a consequent the defence then make errors. So many goals given away to crosses that should have been dealt with.

I know that but if every keeper in this league was as shit as Burge, the numbers of goals we score and concede due to goalkeeper errors throughout the season would be close. I can tell you now, those numbers are not close.

No it’s not. How do these things relate.
Burge is way below than the standard of goalkeeping in league 1. I watched every team in league 1 at least twice bar Rochdale, and can tell you the frequency of goalkeeping errors is a lot lower among the rest of league one than it is for Burge.

It’s clear what you’re saying. You’ve watched all teams keepers. What I don’t get is you saying they don’t make as much mistakes. How could you know? They have played 44 other times and you haven’t watched. It’s like a Wycombe fan saying “Lee Burge is decent, he made no goalkeeping howlers against us.” Me and you seeing the same keeper twice and him not making a mistake doesn’t define how good or bad a GK he is.

Edit: But I suppose we have our own differing views. We could go around in circles all night. He’s made mistakes, more and more towards the tail end of the season, I can’t argue with that. I just can’t focus entirely on that when our quantity of goals scored has been so shit.

I’m not doubting you specifically, and I’m not saying Burge is the new de Gea, but do you actually know that is true? I mean, have you actually gone through the goal we’ve scored and checked out the opposition keeper’s role in that goal? It’s a serious question because we all watch burge with our sky blue specs on and judge every mistake, but when it is the opposition team we tend to think it was our player’s brilliance that was the main factor.

Personally don’t think Burge (L2 goalkeeper of the season 2017-18) is anywhere near as bad as some make out (we’re in league 1 let’s not forget), and I think our fans have made their minds up, so new keeper is best for both parties.

I just think he’ll go on to at least the same level and maybe higher in the future.

I’ve been wrong (once) before

Agree - it will be really interesting to see where Lee Burge goes; as someone else said, surely others who are / have been interested will have spotted the flaws in his game (good at making saves, the rest generally weak) and unless he has a cast iron agreement, I'd be nervous if I was the club involved. Good luck to him, but bench warmer I would have thought.

It will be genuinely interesting to see where he ends up. I hope he does well wherever that may be (apart from if it’s villa, Leicester, Sunderland or actually any team in the 92)
