Poor move by the club IMO. Alienating the young fan base and families who maybe can’t afford season tickets.

Yep sure is, as match to match prices are going to be expensive so Doug is hoping to boost season tickets sales..

For all the good DK has done, there is the occasional blunder.

On the face of it, I can’t see an upside to this? I can’t see many who couldn’t commit to a ST now deciding they will due to this change. If anything, this is closing off a revenue stream.

Ludicrous. My children have been JSBs since they were babies. A ST is out of the question for us as we have a 7 hour round trip to matches, but being a JSB gave them a connection to the club. I can see no justifiable logic behind this decision.

Agreed.

My son is just starting to get into football slowly. No where near ready for a season ticket, but getting him a JSB membership was my way of keeping him connected to the club.

Feels a bit cold to strip those kids, plus those who live afar/ can't afford a season ticket the chance to be a JSB.

Making JSB membership exclusive to season ticket holders makes it a bit pointless. I do wonder if it is a first step by by the club in phasing out the JSB's?

Seems a very bizarre decision. Was going to get my little girl JSB membership for the first time this season.

(though of course she hates Sky Blue Sam because he's not pink)

What the fuck? Why would they do that? Especially as there are plenty willing to become JSBs without a season ticket and pay.

To be fair it's only an extra £100 for a season ticket with JSB membership in the standard zone, that's £8.33 a month and there is 12 months to save it in advance

But then you’d need to buy an adult one as well surely

its probably easier to cancel JSB membership than have to apologise for the gifts/vouchers not being ready every week until November - again.

Oh and they can also reduce down the watch the training session "party" they have had previously.

I just cannot see the business case for them to do this. Will remove a layer of connection between young fans and the club as everyone else has said..

Every so often he makes one of these bizarre moves which makes you remember again that you are just a number and £ to them - and they have no affinity towards the fans. Its expected to be a purely one way street for them!

It's the increasing bond between younger fans and the club that ties in future earnings....so for the little effort it takes to print a plastic card, pack some tat in a box and ship it out it will definitely 'disenfranchise' potential future supporters.

Surely it generates some profit, even in yr 1? Even putting asides potential future spending?

Very sad to hear this.
I was wondering about the silence on jsb memberships a few days ago. For people who live too far to contemplate season tickets, this has been an ideal way of getting the kids involved in the club (and away from other teams).
Along with the cards and gifts, the opportunity for my kids to be mascots was priceless - and they also enjoyed the Christmas party the year they could make it!

Baffling decision. I could maybe understand a two-level JSB membership with extra benefits for ST holders, but just to say we don't want you as a JSB unless you can buy a Season Ticket is really horrible to the kids. Surely fans have to push back against this.
Doug you have earned a lot of goodwill, but not everything comes down to money and this policy is not good for the image or the future of the Club.

The usual reasoning given for changes like this is to align to what other clubs are doing. Anyone know if this is inline with how other clubs do youth memberships?

If other clubs are shunning kids unless their family can buy Season Tickets, I don't want us to 'align' with them.

Doesn't sound like a good move. I was a JSB when my parents would only allow me to go to one game a season. Still meant world to me to get autograph book and badges etc

We want more fans for the future

I am not trying to have a go here, as I have no idea of your circumstances and completely support anyone saying no to pressure to spending more than they would like.

But on the 7mile round trip thing, isn't that what half of Coventry will be from the ground? I think the city center like 3 miles to the ground.

Not good for us, 3-4hr round trip means we can't commit to season tickets. JSB was great for my kids to feel connected. The reduced ticket prices helped offset the petrol.

Might send an email and suggest they have a lower tier JSB membership for families that live too far away to commit to a season ticket. Would only need to include perks like the Xmas card, gifts and vouchers. Mine love all the tat. Sad if they can't be included

Can't really work out the thinking behind this one.

Only thing I can come up with is that there's lots of members who don't go to games and therefore they make a loss as potentially the stuff they send you costs more than the membership but surely then you'd just change the price.
