If we are indeed interested then I don’t mind as long as it’s for squad depth. He can cover all forward positions.

Some experience is need and as long as the contract is favourable, it could be a good signing. First impression isn’t amazement though to be honest!

Except Windass can run and has a bit of pace behind him

Can't say I'm excited by this possibility.

Not meant to be am exciting addition, it's inevitable Godden will go, we need some experience up top, a squad player. Can cover several positions too and younger and quicker than Godden.

Cover across the whole front 4, knows where the net is, experience at this level, got that bit of skill to open defences late on. At the right wage I'd be happy.

Bit of a knob by some accounts but I'm sure if we take to him as a fan base, he'll take to us as well.

Hard no from me. Even as “experience” or “back up”.

One of them 'on his day' players. Useful impact sub perhaps and adds a bit of depth but a bit underwhelming.

I will base my opinion on this signing on how much it would piss Sheffield Wednesday and their div fans off

Hope he goes to Hull. If we want an available striker with Championship experience I'd rather we go for Tyrese Campbell who is younger and has much more potential upside. Windass is not going to get any better than being a mediocre Championship/ decent League 1 level player in my opinion.

I imagine we’d be in for Windass on something like a 2 year deal d for experience and versatility. Both played a similar amount of games and Windass scored more goals and more assists. In a straight shootout, I’d opt for Windass.

It’s not an inspiration signing though, it must be said.

We don’t need to big name signing in attack. Anyone coming in will know they are going to be behind Simms Haji Sakamoto and EMC in the pecking order so that will limit who we could get.

We'll get the whole range of signings this summer from obviously first 11, to competing for first 11, to obvious backup. Anyone expecting every signing to be exciting needs a wake up call, as long they are capable and play their part then its all good.

No experienced pro is coming here to warm the bench.
They will be wanting a start.

If you just compare their records in the Championship I suspect that Campbell might have a better record, but even if not we need to consider that Campbell is 6 years younger. 6 years ago Windass had only had one season at Championship level behind him, scoring a grand total of 5 goals. For me given the option Campbell would be more of a logical signing for us, with much more potential to improve.

If you want to bring in experience then don't do it to sit on the bench, which is what he'd be doing. You want it on the pitch where it can make a difference and he's not going to take a starting place of anyone.

Buying in back-ups and squad players you go for younger players and ones from lower/lesser known divisions.

Yeah we really don’t need a Godden 2.0, getting on a bit and wouldn’t exactly be a revolutionary signing for us.

Genuine Q: would people rather Tavares as our backup striker?

Not sure that is true, especially in the forward line. If we sign an experienced striker who expects to start Simms comes out - then your saleable asset's development is hindered & price goes down.

An experienced bit-part player like Windass is more likely to help the squad while not playing than Rodrigues will be able to.

I think its more the other way round. Am sure some people remember his Dad being decent and in their minds have Josh as being the same level.

We're looking more and more like a progressive club.

Can't see Windass as anything but a backward step.

Aged 30 so wrong age range for Robins' style. Played 1759 mins, equivalent to 19 full games over the season. Lasted the full 90 only 6 times. 6 goals, 2 assists.

As someone else said, another Waghorn.

Can't see him as a step up from Godden.

If we signed him I’d be happy to be proven wrong. I don’t think he’s on our radar though, mainly because he’s not very good.

How many goals did Windass score from September?

Windass just feels to me like another Waghorn, 30 year old striker, with pedigree, scored a respectable amount at this level in the previous season, playing for a club fighting relegation
