King said basically that Stamenic was a proposed replacement for Sheaf. I think people are confused if they think we’ve planned to add another money signing to the midfield. Suggests Sheaf was close to going.

Sheaf refusing the move could well be the reason. Would make sense.
I really wish he'd gone. His stock won't be that high again after a high profile end to the season courtesy of the cup run andI don't think we'd miss anywhere near as much as the other big name players who have gone.

Didn’t you say this bid was in January though?

I thought it was end of last season but I could be wrong, fairly sure though because I was out of the country first few months of the year.

@Brighton Sky Blue had to quote my own post because can't edit for some reason, but yes, I put it up end of last season, so Shmmeees theory that that could have affected the Stamenic transfer could be true.
Fairly sure Luton weren't relegated when this was going on but looked certainty be.

And before people say you can't bid in the season, I put up that Rudoni was coming on April 27th.

These things don't always happen by the rule book.

I’m guessing you’re the one shouting “forward” at every opportunity? If you took off your rose-tinted glasses, you’ld see that the standard of football and technical ability are now light years ahead of your good old days. Added to that, I’m sure you would also remember the dreadful pitches, the incessant backpasses, no incentive to try and win games (as only 2 points for a win), unpunished thuggery on the pitch, poor crowds, appalling stadiums.
Is it perfect? Of course not - we’ve got VAR, weak referees not enforcing the laws/guidance, undoubtedly more playacting and the game being run by Sky. But on balance, it’s a massively better sport to watch. And before you ask, I’ve been watching since 1964 so suffered through the old (but not good) days.

I don't think it is better, just different. Give me Tommy Hutch, Ian Wallace, Jim Holton and Stuart Pearce any day

Eccles is a good squad player, if we seriously want a crack at top 6 next season then he shouldn’t be starting,

Another Championship team would be delighted to sign a player like him for that small a fee.

You'd sell Eccles for £1m? Absolutely ridiculous take.

You're right to question his million, but that's way ott too and I like him. I certainly wouldn't be thrilled if we'd spent 7m to buy him. I would've thought bang in the middle of those two estimates at about 4m is right.

Oh I don’t think he’s worth seven million, but thought to show how way off it is. 4 million fair imo.

Its hard to call someone’s value when no one of similar profile has been sold recently, he’s not young, not old, good stats, English, one of our own, cracking player on his day but not nailed on starter, so tough one to call value wise, I think anything above 3m we’d all be delighted but we’ll be surprised how much he may go for

€7m is less than £6m. I would agree with between £4m and £5m so don't see it as being far out. £1m only gets you a decent League 1 player these days.

you’d be absolutely mortified if your club bought Josh Eccles for Four million pounds.

We’ve slandered Asante for half that value.

Buying a midfielder for that chunk of money who would provide next to no attacking threat or defensive muscle.

We’d have to be laughing to the bank if we got anywhere remotely near that

We might have slaughtered Asante, we've not slandered him as that has to be untrue and he's garbage

We paid a couple of million for Torp. That puts Eccles at at least double that. Don’t see the problem some have with Eccles. Perfectly good championship midfielder. I’d guess there’s not a lot of difference between him and say Browne. It’s just that we haven’t signed him and he’s come through the ranks.

The notion of selling Eccles for a million is just ridiculous. Every club in the league would take him at that price (and probably a few in the PL too.)

He's better than a lower championship or league 1 player and has proven that on many occasions this season

I've come to really appreciate Josh Eccles this season particularly given the dreadful form of Sheaf.

However, I would certainly dispute any PL teams would go for Eccles, or Sheaf for that matter. The reason is simple. They make too many mistakes. They give the ball away too often, lose it in dangerous areas of the pitch.

PL players obviously make errors too, but to a far less extent..

There were PL scouts watching him last year apparently and he'd definitely get in as a squad player for £1m for some of the bottom teams.

At the moment yes he is I absolutely agree.

My point was not that he is a Premier League level player, but that selling him for £1m as someone suggested is lunacy and he'd end up at a far better team than us.

Eccles is a very good player who has improved every year, playing minutes near the top of our appearance list ever since he established himself in the team.
Every player (even the very best) have a dip in form, although that often coincides with the team playing less well. I don't think Eccles has been at his best this season, but I am sure he will be back. he was offered a new four year contract for a reason.

Worth more than £1m for sure but you’d have to be absolute mugs to spend £7m on Eccles. Nowhere near that good.

You said he will outgrow us and has been out best player this season and if we don’t get promoted will get the opportunity elsewhere

I know this may come across as lazy journalism, but I did hear somewhere at the beginning of the season he was considered as a replacement for Burger at Stoke if he was sold (obviously pre Mark Robins)..
