Disappointing as he’s one of the few experienced lads we have, solid defensively and I think his crossing on the overlap/dead ball delivery has improved every season he’s been here

I worry we won’t replace all those attributes. Particularly as we’re stuck with Dasilva for another 2 seasons we could end up exposed

Still not sure about Eccles, hes‘s looked ok this season due to how bad we’ve been, really want him to do well as a local lad but to get where we want we need a bit more from him, top six team ? then he’d be a good squad player

I suspect the new manager will have an input on that.

He wasn’t quite what Robins wanted, that may not be true going forward.

I’m sure we’ll upgrade on Bidwell and have Dasilva as backup. I’m a big fan of his but it’s time for him to move on now if we’re looking to progress.

I don’t disagree. We should be looking to replace and upgrade his attributes, will be a big test for Austin and co to get it right.

If it’s Lampard I would be shocked if he wants to keep bidders.

Not that I don’t rate him but attacking overlapping wingbacks are a big part of his Derby and Chelsea system.

Harvey Vale from Chelsea might be a target in January

if we had the midfield we needed at the start of the season I don’t think he starts, he’s good at what he does, does the basics you’d expect him to, hope he keeps getting better, he’s a mid table championship player, unfortunately he’s not the only one

Isn’t it a bit early to make that statement seeing as we don’t have a manager?

He's not good enough on the ball and isn't getting any better. Dasilva looks unlikely to move on soon too, so I'd be shocked if Bidwell is renewed. Left back should be on our shopping list in Jan/next summer.

And what about the other half, they went missing, not knocking him he‘s doing his best for us, but he doesn’t get into any of the top 6 teams which is where we want to be,

He's played in a top 6 team.
And the idea he'd be the one dropped if we had another midfielder given how Sheaf and Torp have performed up to now doesn't ring true with me, (though Torp does appear to be turning a corner).

didn’t say that, I said if we had the midfield we needed at the start of the season he wouldn’t start, I haven’t seen anything from rudoni or torp to say they would either, Eccles is a good player, who knows, new manager could improve him even more

I imagine his agent been negotiating for a few weeks which is why the timing seems odd with no manager and only 18 months into a 4 year deal, as he hit 100 first team appearances and that likely triggered a new deal. 24 too so perfect age for a 4 year and in line with new signings.

Hopefully we're getting a few contracts sorted and especially Sheaf them announce them post new manager as a sign of don't panic, we're continuing on the journey.

He isn’t wrong though, most of the concerns before weren’t to do with ability but injury record. Safe to say he’s not had any such problems since, but he’d had two non trivial muscle injuries before signing the first extension.

Disagree and as there was interest from Premier league sides in the summer I think your opinion is way wide of the mark

Good news and he’s deserved better terms. I think his last contract was seen as a low risk gamble for us and Eccles was probably happy to sign as he was in and out of the team (mostly due to injury) but also wasn’t getting in at CM ahead of Hamer and Sheaf.

He’s deserved this if true. It would be subconsciously disruptive playing as well as he has this year and knowing he’s probably earning less than Sheaf, Torp and maybe even Allen (basically the other players in his position)

I never commented on original contract as far as I am aware. For me I've always said he's good

Still think he's tad overated by some though cos homegrown though

Think you might be mixing @PVA up with my comments. I was the one that said I’d’ve kept Biamou on for another year as a squad player and I probably wouldn’t have resigned Gyokeres after that loan at the time.

Genuinely though, is it tiring just constantly trying to argue with everyone. I reckon 95% of your posts on here are combative or looking to point score over what someone has said 5 years ago.

Any chance you can just contribute to the thread subject. Thoughts on Eccles getting a new contract if it’s true for example?

Funny, I’ve always thought it’s had the negative effect on him… I.e people under-rate him because he’s seen to just be a kid from the acadamy and a cheap option doing a job. If we paid £1m for him people would value him more imo

Eccles has emerged as one of our brightest talents, a player whose contributions often go under the radar but are absolutely vital to the team’s success. Eccles embodies everything us fans love about a player who wears the Sky Blue shirt with pride.

What sets Eccles apart is his versatility and composure. Whether he’s breaking up opposition attacks, dictating the tempo from midfield, or threading incisive passes forward, he does it all to a decent standard. His ability to read the game is exceptional; he is great at anticipating danger and positioning himself perfectly to neutralise the opponents attacks.

Eccles is equally an also play out from the back under pressure and can driving forward to spark an attack. His range of passing is underrated, and his engine is relentless—he covers every blade of grass, ensuring he’s a constant presence in both defensive and attacking phases.

Perhaps what I admire most about Eccles is his work ethic and passion. You can see in every performance how much it means to him to represent this club. He’s a player who leaves everything on the pitch.

Always rated Eccles in the same way as I did Shipley. Good stand in. But he has really progressed and I remember Robins saying he can be whatever he wants to be. He hasn't fulfilled that potential but I'm glad to see him on the team sheet these days

I’m going to go against the majority here but for me, if we are going to aim for top 6 / top 2 over the next few seasons then Eccles isn’t the answer

Decent squad player but for me lacks aggression and is too safe on the ball.

If Lampard (assuming) comes in then hopefully he can take Eccles up a notch

And yes, I go to about 90% of games home and away.

Disagree. I think he is quite aggressive and isn't just safe. He plays some lovely through balls to the strikers and spreading play.

He plays it safe when he needs to play it safe, but if he sees something on, he tries to play through balls out to the wings or to the forwards.

Seen this opinion on here a bit recently, but I don’t share it. Lampard was a brilliant CM, but his ability to improve our own midfielders will depend on his ability as a coach, not as a player.
