Name a better ball by one of our players this season than that he sent over for Norman

Fantastic ball, but as the statistics show, pass completion % is a lot lower than you’d want. He is improving and trying to get better in that facet of the game because he’s tried that kind of pass several times this season and most have gone wayward. It’s a difficult skill to master so it’s not something we should expect to be bang on straight away.

Defensively, he and Sheaf are in a good spot and always have been. In a recent interview, perhaps pre-BCFC away in the league, he was talking about he is ‘trying new things’ and being patient with that.

Perhaps it’s time to listen, and no I am not his dad.
But I am and always have been an Eccles fan.

Sheaf and Eccles in midfield with Rudoni just ahead of them is a very good midfield for the Championship.

We don’t lack quality in midfield, just depth, although I do think that Torp shows a lot of promise and Bassette and BT-A have the makings of good attacking midfielders if MR wants to play them there.

Becoming more and more convinced that Torps issues have been down to fitness and once up to speed he'll be a real asset

Agreed, looked good last night and against Watford with some impressive stats in interceptions so far.

It’s routine for us Cov fans to panic early in the season when we’ve been slow starters in almost every season in MRs 2nd tenure. It was only our 2nd season back in Championship where we started quick where we won our first 5-7 home games on the bounce.

One of his best performances for us last night, we're all hoping he can become the player we need in the middle of the park.

I want Torp to improve his upper body strength. He regularly gets knocked off the ball where he had to rely on physically turning a player.

I like him but currently not consistently good enough at the level we are. He needs to add goals to his game which he has shown he waste when the chance has opened up for him. A killing pas or two would also be an improvement. He did put in a glorious ball last night but its all to few atm.

I will admit that he was brilliant yesterday, and I rarely say that about Eccles, but my issue with him being regarded as a top quality midfielder is his consistency. If he can produce that sort of quality every single game then he’ll be our next Sheaf, if not better, but in my view what we saw yesterday is not what we see every game from Eccles. If he can keep improving his consistency with regards to awareness and threat going forward then he’ll be top class.

He's a bit of an enigma to me and I can't work out if he's really good or not

His stats are in the right place ,still just 24 years old and he's from Coventry.

Why does he need to be a threat going forward? He’s a DM. He’s not, or ever will be, Gus or some other swashbuckling midfielder, it’s not his game. Maybe if you stopped trying to turn him into something he’s not you’d appreciate him more

What I like about Eccles is that he improves a bit every season.

Last season the stats show he was an above average championship midfielder but a bit behind the top bracket where Sheaf was.

Hopefully he can make that step.

Still only 24, 2 years younger than Sheaf. I still remember the embarrassing thread with people fuming because we offered him a new contract

No, there was no excusing it. This was midway through our Play Off Final season and he’d played a lot of games by then. He had a few freak injuries early on in his career but nothing worrying

Well said. He does what we need him to do very well, usually. My only frustration with him is often, when he's putting a player under pressure and they end up with their back to goal, he will end up committing a foul which he doesn't need to make. Anyway, it's up to the likes of Rudoni to carry the ball forwards, and create goal scoring opportunities.

I actually think Eccles has the ability to knock in maybe half a dozen goals a year. He's technically capable of pinging in a a good shot, but up to now he seems to lose composure when chances come around the edge of the area. Hopefully we'll see a few crackers from him this season.

In the past few games he is actually getting the ball and looking forward instead of the usual pass back to the defence, always thought he was a reasonable tackler and he has definitely stepped up his game of late, lets hope he keeps progressing for our sake because like it or not he is the best midfielder we currently have playing ...just cut out the stupid lapses of concentration when giving the ball away

I am sure a lot of our players are going to improve as the season progresses. The new stuff at Ryton , new diets etc but I do think Eccles and the rest of midfield will be nurtured and given terrific info and help by Boatang

Clearly trying to add more expansive passing to his game, and if he does he'll be the complete package for his position. Will probably end up getting cropped before January though...
