Are many of us ( me included ) too harsh on eccles and downplay his ability ?

He's a bit of an enigma to me and I can't work out if he's really good or not

His stats are in the right place ,still just 24 years old and he's from Coventry.

A few seasons when he was at RB he was shocking.

I will happily say since he's stuck at CDM and played more he's a completely different player. Last night he ran the show for most of it.

I think because of his position, he isn't going to be taking on 10 players and getting people off their seat but he makes some great tackles.

He's done well this season and was great last night. Thankfully he no longer has to take corners. Can't believe I'm saying this but I think I would rather have him than Sheaf in the team.

Excellent player, great awareness and anticipation. Got as good a chance as anybody at the club of playing in the top flight.

Sheaf is head and shoulders above Eccles.

Yes, I’ve always said if he was foreign and bought for a few million we would be constantly talking about how amazing he is.

His stats are great but not only that when you see him play you can see his energy and desire is top class. The problem we seem to have is he could do ten things right but as soon as he makes one mistake the same people seem to jump all over him saying how shit he is.

75% of this forum are to harsh on Eccles. The management keep telling you, he is one of the better midfielders in the championship.
Perhaps it’s time to listen, and no I am not his dad.
But I am and always have been an Eccles fan.

In some ways, sure.

In other ways such as defensive blocks and breaking play up i think Eccles is better - A lot of this work goes unnoticed at times.

Nah.

Eccles has been as good as for some time. Last night was an example of how good he really is. The two players get treated completely differently though. The former was being lobbied as going to the Premier League for 25 million, which obviously never fucking happened.

That will tell you which bias is currently unreasonable.

I think he's solid and getting better all the time. The balance hasn't been right in midfield yet this season, he has his share of the blame but so has the other 2 CM, the tactics, management, etc.

The guys behind me spent most of last nights game complaining about him and when he played that wonder pass before it made it, complained again.

I turned around with the biggest shit eating grin, they found the funny side to it though.

Eccles is a quality player. He seems to get the most criticism which is bizarre. As someone that has played and managed I can tell you that players and managers love players like Eccles. He's not high maintenance, he grafts his bollocks off and is effective. He never hides or goes missing, even when having a poor game

Sheaf has the ability to dictate the tempo of a game. Eccles doesn’t yet. He needs to play alongside someone that can.

I’m not saying he’s bad, just not as good as sheaf and it’s ridiculous to say so.

It's not ridiculous to say so whatsoever. Our fan base have massively overrated Sheaf and the defense lines for him get redrawn in the sand every week.

Eccles gets far too much criticism, and last night proved how good he is. 'Dicating the tempo of a game' is really just a set of words that doesn't mean a great deal, but if it would apply to anyone recently you wouldn't look much further than Eccles.

Looked comfortable from the off against a higher calibre of opposition than usual.
Gets a lot of unfair criticism, should kiss the badge occasionally, that should sort it.

I like him, I think the only midfielder not quite up to the standard of the rest of the squad is Allen. I'm not sure he's captain material but he keeps getting the armband. Maybe that's because of his home club links. Generally I don't think the criticism is justified.

Fans spent days complaining about high ticket prices, and how it's morally wrong or some crap because the club is a community institution. And at the same time they call our only home grown first team player shit, and want him replaced by multi million £ players from abroad.

I always get mixed up between him and Torp and they always both seem to wear white boots. For once Eccles was wearing a bright coloured pair.

He's maturing into a very good midfielder, you can see he is working on his progressive passing and moving the ball quicker but for me the most impressive thing has been the leadership he is starting to show

He’s been good and his progression the past couple of seasons has been impressive.

He is a good defensive mid; he is no more than that and I think that’s why some don’t rate him. But he does that job well and has a brilliant engine.

Never likely to score goals or do particularly fancy stuff other than the odd nice pass. Tracks back well, tackles well, passes forwards, makes himself available and is technically decent with the ball at his feet.

I am also glad he no longer takes corners

In the Sky coverage last night we ranked 5th in the Championship for goals scored from corners since the start of last season

Last night I thought he was awesome and showed real leadership as captain. Never really understand the negativity that is shown to him.
Another player who we are often told is not good enough is Allen and I thought he had a great game too.

Didn’t we score two in one game from Eccles corners or did I imagine that?

Let’s be honest though, our corners are better now…

Pretty much unrelated, but I noticed Brennan Johnson changed his boots at half time.

He's excellent and has been for a while. Some of the stick he gets on here is ridiculous.

It was only the other week someone was saying he's League two level ffs.

Like someone has already said he can do a dozen things well in a game but if he misplaced a pass or loses the ball he's instantly damned by some . It's very weird

What stats are you looking at? When I’ve compared the two Sheaf is better in almost every one, many significantly.

Name a better ball by one of our players this season than that he sent over for Norman
