I wonder if Robins has thought of showing a video of Harry Kane to the strikers to make them all 30 goal a season strikers?

Looked far far better without him last night. He does the basic stuff well, very tidy where that’s concerned, today was the first time in a while that we’ve advanced the ball consistently like we did last year and played with some tempo. Sheaf, Allen and o’hare all look to make things happen with th ball, Eccles doesn’t.

Afterwards Gary Rowett said that Brum leave too many people up front, that there’s a lack of balance, and a gap between attack and defence. Possibly Robins was exploiting this?

Seems a bit harsh on Eccles as I think he’s been superb this season. It could be that Brum are just a bit shite under Rooney?

After the game Robins commented that we were a little open at times. Birmingham were awful and we took advantage, but Southampton are likely to provide a much tougher challenge, and I suspect MR would ideally like to bring Eccles back for that game. The only trouble is however that none of the midfielders that played last night deserve to be dropped. If he does bring Eccles back in I guess it might be for Simms, but its a big call for MR.

Think we were ok with one defensive midfielder (Sheaf) last night against a dire side. I fear that midfield gets overrun against Southampton so would expect to see Eccles back in for Allen (if available).

Whilst he had a good game overall, there must’ve been 6 or 7 times Sheaf gave it away cheaply first half leading to a Brum break away. If it’s Armstrong running onto them we’d have probably been a couple down.

Yeah I actually thought we missed Eccles breaking opposition play up but having more attacking minded players obviously helped us progress the ball forward.

The reason we played " with tempo" nothing to do with Eccles it's O'hare getting back up to pace when he plays it's alway going to be played quicker plus we were against Birmingham and there was so much space for our midfield .In fact if he had been playing my thoughts are he would have revelled in this space and found himself in shooting postions and may well have added to the goals or assists. You can rest assured he will be back on Wednesday against stiffer oppositon either in the team (Hope Roblns keeps the same team to start) or when Southampton start to get the upperhand in midfield.

Been harshly dropped in my opinion. Been our best midfielder overall this season. I get the feeling people posting that we played better without him would have written that regardless of performance or result.

Even without mentioning him every post you make screams that sheaf lives in your head rent free

I think Eccles has been good this season and I think we would have done fine with him in yesterday too. But he will have to fight it out with Allen for starting spot next game out I imagine.

Good to have options

Robins changed the shape last night and inverted the midfield triangle. Gave us some great link up opportunities between the full backs, wingers and Allen/O’Hare but I think we did look vulnerable in transition. I was very surprised he didn’t bring Eccles on once we went 2-0 up to shore up the midfield.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him back starting for Southampton or Leeds when we’ll be tested more defensively.

Simms played well and was a focal point for us which we don’t really have. He needed a big chance and didn’t get one.

I thought Allen played well but think it’s a good game to play Eccles and Sheaf. Had COH not had a stormer, I’d have leaned towards a 4-3-3.

I don’t think so, he’s had a run of games and probably needs a rest. Considering we didn’t make any subs suggests our options weren’t at 100%.

That, and Birmingham being an average team with a substandard manager.

Robins said at the fans forum that he would have rested Eccles weeks ago if he’d had the chance - I wouldn’t read too much into him not playing last night, his level of performance this season speaks for itself.

Eccles has been good. Disagree that he's been our best midfielder, not even close imo, however would like to see him back in for Weds instead of a striker. 4-2-3-1

I thought I was the only one who was seeing this. Made some great defensive tackles and interceptions but sloppy/casual in possession a few times

Not a peep from the guy behind me who was busy screaming at wright to ‘do something’ most of the game

Tbf whilst I agree with you he was sloppy I'm possession a few times, what did you want from the guy behind? To have a go at Sheaf too? I'm not sure that's helpful as it wouldn't have been to Wright ... who I did think was very poor. Moan on here or in your groups, but getting on players at the game rarely helps.

Not at all. I don’t want any abuse of our players during the game. If people want to have a booo at the end that’s their call. My point was the certain players can give it away cheaply and nothing, others get absolute dogs abuse for no reason

ps wright wasnt ‘very poor’ at all. He needs to toughen up a bit and be stronger on the ball still but some of his movement and link play was good.

As ever he found space, as ever he didn't always seem to quite know what to do with it!

Certainly helped stretch play though.

I said it at the time. His lack of attention or focus sometimes is frustrating. If he had that he would be in the prem probably.

It's like he assumes a pass will go where he wants and takes chances or is lazy with the execution. Only way I can kinda explain what I mean.

When we set up with both Eccles and Sheaf we’re setting up to ‘nick’ a game not to take the impetus and try and boss the game.

Don’t get me wrong, Eccles is good at breaking up play and making a simple pass, (not as good at is as sheaf), what Eccles is entirely ineffective at is impacting the game offensively.

He’ll have is part to play in some of the tougher games but at home or where we really want to take the game to the opposition, Eccles isn’t it.

I doubt he was dropped and suspect it was a fitness issue.
