Whatever happens with Kelly, the guy deserves enormous respect for what he has achieved with us and his contribution to where we are now. His knee injury was typical of his defensive commitment - colliding with the post to protect our goal.

Not many players in our history have captained a league winning side. He should stay til the end of his contract and then be given a hero's send off in his final game.

So we have 1 player (Allen) to cover 4 positions (CM,CM,CAM,CAM) for the next 13 games with 1 of our midfielders 1 yellow away from a 2 game ban. Not signing 1 or 2 cheap loans in Jan is looking great

Plus Shipley, Jones and Howley.

So that's 4 players to cover 4 positions, even despite 2 injuries.

We don't have the finances to have a bloated squad in case of bad injury crises.

Why? We don't have the resources to be able to carry him for yet another year and I'm sure on Kelly's end he'd much rather be playing regularly somewhere else.

Well currently Shipley is one of the CAM positions (even though hes nowhere near good enough). Jones has played about 5 games in 4 years and Howley has never made a league appearance. So the only cover is Allen

Much rather keep him around than other fringe players.

But will he want to stick around? He's 32 and barely featured all season. I think at his age he'll be wanting regular first team football, not to be a club mascot.
