Interesting that Eccles is being called upon to do more and more of these pre- and post-match videos. Do the club see him as a future team leader/captain ?

Am I right in saying this is the first time we’ve been behind since injury time at Leicester?

Okay, any other thoughts, suggestions ? Would have expected Fadz or Sheaf (Captain and spoken-about-potential captain) to be the spokesperson for the team on the pitch, not Eccles. And don't knock Eccles too soon. He's still growing into his role and has had some good performances over the last 18 months. The "local kid made good" stereotype can only work so long so Robins must have reasons to put him in front of the camera each week.

If we’d sold Sheaf last minute there’s be no issue with Eccles as a foil to Hamer. The problem is he’s being compared to Hamer and he’s not that player.

Not counting Wimbledon, yes. Didn't concede vs Middlesboro, Sunderland ended 0-0 and we scored first at Swansea.

Good to see then. Can’t really count Leicester as they scored so late, but to be behind three times in normal time and come back is a good sign.

And that's unfair to the lad. He's more versatile than Hamer was (can play WB, RB, CM, tea lady, colour commentator) while still learning about his actual role. What is his actual/best position ? He's never been in one position for long enough to work that one out but does each job he's given satisfactorily.

Sounded like we had the same fighting spirit as last season. Also gives the fans hope that we won't collapse after conceding one or two goals which spurs them on and stops the CBS becoming a library.

I just don’t think Eccles is good enough to be starting consistently at the level we want to be, so he wouldn’t be a good choice for captain.

Agree it's unfair on Josh but I think Hamer was equally versatile and could play those positions too - we just valued what Gus could do for us in the middle to mess around with that much when he was our player.

Bet Gus made a mean cuppa tea

"at the level we want to be"

Eccles is the best we have for now (although if Ayari can sort out his positioning he looks better technically). But he's not enough if we want to be in the top 6.
