Yet more confirmation the FA have not got a clue.

here is a man (Jose) stating he was hours from the England job. One of the most charismatic characters to come out of English football in decades, a former "trainee" of the great Bobby Robson and highly successful manager at Chelsea and other clubs. A man manager of the highest order, at the time managing some of the top players in English football at Chelsea.

The FA today simply say Capello was always the first choice in their minds. So by doing so have not denied Jose remarks and moreover had clearly made the decision to go with an Italian who could barely speak English, had not experience of the English game, never worked with English players, never lived in England etc etc over Jose Marinho the fans favourite disciple of recent times?

All I can say it beggars belief. They really don't know what they are doing.

All I can think about now is if Jose had been appointed what difference would that have made to the shambles we witnessed at last summers world cup?

Utter bewilderment, I need a lie down....

Mourinho? I think he has said numerous times he doesn't want to be an international coach until he is older, and then he said with Portugal.

One thing he does like is to feed his ego imp:

Managing England would be a disaster for him-- the skill level of our players just isnt there... 2 or 3 gutsy English in a team -great- but a team full of them at this point in time aint gonna do anything....
We need to learn how to play football properly...

...and I would add I am not even convinced many of our players are even that fit or athletic... despite the urban myth. The movement of many continental players is way better than ours.. (Gareth Barry wouldnt get in Barca 2nd reserves methinks)

Fair point, although he gets the maximum out of players who are willing to listen. He convinced Samuel Eto'o to play as a defensive winger at Inter, if he couldn't bring success to the England team I don't know who could.

They were stupid if the rumours are true not to give him the job.

But he has stated a few times that international managers should only manage their own countries and how he'd like to manage portugal one day. Perhaps this was because of the FA telling him to go away?

Having said that, i do think Capello is a good manager, if you look at his track record that is. Currently for England he's been worse than naff and his grasp of the English language is actually going backwards (anyone else think its now just put on so he doesn't have to answer hard/tough questions?)
