Tony Mowbray's interesting update on Jordan Willis & a possible SAFC comeback

Tony Mowbray has not ruled out the possibility of handing Jordan Willis a new contract at Sunderland - but says he feels the best thing for the defender will probably be to try and restart his career elsewhere.
www.sunderlandecho.com

Edging closer to a return and Mowbray looks interested in him at Sunderland.

Good luck to him. It won't be long before many on here are keen on him returning.

Id have him back as cheap cover. We’re desperate for Right footed CBs. He’s still a prick for leaving for a “big club” though.

Served us well, shame it ended the way it did

good luck to him but I don’t think it would be the right move for both parties

Not played for 2 years
League 1 level at very best, even when he was with us he was never a world beater.

Out of interest apart from being right footed, on what other basis would you think he could improve our squad ?

That’s literally it. He’s a right footed CB and his competition as reserve would be Dabo at CB basically

I like Willis but he's not good enough on the ball to play in our back 3 imo

As much as I thought he was a good soiled reliable player who gave his all for us. I wouldn't what him back getting himself match fit and going back to Scumberland. Wish him a speedy recovery

Ps, cracking goal at Wembley Jordan, won't forget that in a hurry..

Spot on Fernando.

Great servant and an academy legend but no way good enough to play in our back three now.

Don’t really buy this “great servant” no matter who it is. Got payed to play football while at our club for a few years including being part of the worst team I’ve ever seen.
Done his bit in all fairness to get us going in the right direction again.

We can just get another loan there in Jan. Pointless signing a crippled Willis

I just have a soft spot for academy products. TBF I’d imagine we’ve got someone lined up as we nearly signed Rente in the summer.

He served us well, but we outgrew him when we were in League 1 there’s no point going back in for him now. Injury prone as well, sound lad but its a no from me

I would have fancied Robins to close a 3 point gap with 15 games to go. But you do you.

Willis stayed with us when he could have jumped ship when we were struggling then helped us turn things round. He also scored a blinder at Wembley which helped start us off on our play off victory so I wish him well. I disagree with those that don't think he could have played in the Championship as I think he was well equipped to do so, but not with us. Willis' strengths were defensive ones, but we have evolved into a team that needs its defenders to play a bit. There are plenty of teams in this league that don't play that way though and at his best I'm sure he could have played for any of them. All irrelevant now though as even if he is able to return and play it will inevitably have to be at a lower level. Perhaps he could join all the ex Sky Blues at Shrewsbury!

Willis was a good player in his day for us. But after injuries and whatever since leaving us leaves a lot to be desired

He will probably need half a season to get fit after so long out, but I wouldn't be averse to having him as a squad player, and a back-up to Rose. He has pace, and experience.

What’s with the obsession with ex players? He’s not good enough, time to move on.

I liked him in Leagues 1 and 2. Not sure he was ever Championship standard, especially given his lack of passing ability. After a serious injury too definitely a no to this one. We can do far better.

Was great for us in L1 and 2 but main attributes were physicality and pace and I can't see him having anywhere near the same levels after an injury like the one he had
