Truth is without any snide shite, you've signed a good defender who has pace, can catch a man will give 110% every match and is fairly decent on the ball.

Reality is, we've kept the better of our centre half 2 and added a championship level defender who can ping a ball to feet 40 yards and has the added height

Both clubs will be happy

As part of their respective deals do Lee and Jordan have to display their Checkatrade and Play off final medals in the Sunderland Trophy Cabinet?

Why? He'll be on a higher wage and probably a nice signing on fee.

I'm interested to know how so many of our supporters know the salary Willis will be on when playing for a club he hasn't even signed with yet that are in the same division as us.

He’s a good pacey defender but injury prone he will improve Sunderland, but you would think he would have wanted to get away from calamity being behind him.

People saying he wouldn’t get in our team, based on what? We don’t know much about Rose and McFadzean could end up being another Ogogo or Brown. I’m not writing any of the new signings off, but I’ll be reserving judgement until the first few games.

I don't know much about Rose, but McFadzean is an upgrade on Willis. That's not to say Willis isn't any good but I don't think we'll miss him.

In all honesty, he's a very good player for this level and could probably hold his own at the lower end of the Championship. Would be a good signing for you, but we've replaced him well so I think everyone will be happy (although I'd rather we'd got a fee for him).

Willis was excellent for City. Great servant who always gave 100%. Only issue is he is injury prone. I always thought we were a better team with him in it. Not to forget his super strike at Wembley. I wish him well wherever he goes.

Willis being injury prone is an absolute myth.

In the last 5/6 seasons, he's made over 30 appearances per season, in most over 40. He had one bad injury in the mowbray season

This. Jordan Willis is brave and quick, but for me his distribution was always iffy. Good luck to him (although if he plays against us, I hope it's at full back!)

His distribution wasn't the best and his speed got him out of trouble on numerous occasions. Saying that I'm not going to make out he was rubbish just because he's left, would have had no issue with giving him a new contract.

Seems a strange one for both him and Sunderland. I thought he would have been looking at championship club so am a bit surprised he’s going there, and I thought they would be looking at higher level defenders unless they are cutting the wage bill down

Been reading in their forum and yeah they're cutting their losses, by the looks of it they're actually in severe financial difficulty and have had a failed takeover. Hence releasing a lot of their higher earning players and only signing players on free

He hasn’t missed many games but does seem to have been carrying injuries for the last couple of seasons. Been plenty of limping during and at the end of games.

I think Sunderland have got themselves a more than capable defender at this level. His speed is his asset and it more than compensates for his occasional positional lapses. I feel a little sorry for the lad as I am sure he, like the rest of us, expected him to be in a championship team this season.
As for burge you have a better than average shot stopper but a keeper who has lapses in concentration, gets stuck on his line too often and who loses confidence too quickly. His distribution is woeful at times; if you sit on half wY you will gather his clearances more often than your forwards.

MR always seemed to be saying that Willis was being monitored/had a knock etc. Although he's not missed a massive number of games in each season he has at least one or two periods where he's missed a few games on the bounce through injury and sometimes has come back as a necessity rather than because he's totally fit. He just always seems to be carrying a niggle of some sort or other.

Very surprised if he is joining another L1 team, even if it is one who can probably pay higher wages. I wonder if he thought he'd get at least one offer from the Championship to test himself at a higher level, but didn't officially turn down our offer just in case. Then when MR said in the interview he'd definitely gone and there was no longer a place for him to come back to he had to sort something out for himself.

Or the offer from a higher level didnt come in. How long can you afford to wait? Perhaps he felt he needed a new challenge?

Good luck to him. He was decent enough for us and part of a few successes.

He has a recurring and I believe chronic knee injury. Hence why if we went through busy periods of matches he had to miss one. He was managed well like I lot of players have been over the years. Doesn't mean he is injury prone. Injury prone suggests he gets an injury every week, and doesn't make it onto the pitch, when we all know he does.

Yes lots of players have to be managed to keep them playing - Paul McGrath one of the best defenders I have seen in this country

I fear some people are speaking far too soon re. our remaining defenders. Hyam - fair enough he’s very good. But saying McFadzean will be better, it’s way too soon to be saying that.

I'd wind your neck in if I were you lad. Your city contains absolute bilge like Willenhall and Hillfields.

Always find it funny when people from a working class city try and get all high and mighty.

At last something reasonable I can respond to.

Willis is definitely an improvement on what we currently have, as you would have seen in the 5-4 game our central defenders are woefully inadequate even at this level. I was concerned last summer when we signed Baldwin and the Peterborough fans weren't that arsed. As it happens he started okay then went downhill rather rapidly, I'd like to think he will never play for us again but I can't see who'd take him off us. Thankfully the new owners seem to have put a stop to us handing out long term contracts so he should be out the door in a year or so.

Regarding Burge I'd like to think he will be backup to McLaughlin who is one of the more capable goalkeepers in this division, if it wasn't for him we'd wouldn't even have finished in the play offs such were the depths Baldwin and Flanagan plunged to last season.

Willis thought he was good enough for the championship, but looks like the championship disagreed.
Our squad is looking better than last seasons, I can’t say the same for yours.

I think we've improved slightly, especially if Willis signs. Conor McLaughlin got in the team of the year last time he was at this level so he should be an improvement at full-back where we were forced to play a central midfielder for large parts of 2018/19.

I'm glad Cattermole is gone, you can't justify paying someone £30-40k per week at this level. The signing of McLaughlin should free up O'Nien to play in his natural position of central midfield and we've got some good young players coming through who can play there.

Plus there are still a few weeks for us to make some more additions. I'm quite relaxed tbf.

Regarding your squad I couldn't possibly comment as I'm not clued up about who you have signed / sold / released.
