Willis was prone to the odd mistake but his pace helped him out of trouble, not the best in the air and I used to cringe when he hoofed it up field, 9 times out of ten it was straight to the opposition but he's been a good servant and times change so good luck to him after he leaves Scumderland wherever he goes

Nothing materialised from the Championship so he’s taken the highest paying L1 club. Think he may miss a good season with us and a rocky one at Sunderland.

We look a better defensive unit this season than last. (On paper at least)
I think a new keeper and an experienced centre half will make a huge difference.
And I’m looking forward to seeing a new right back bombing forward.

Exactly. But some people seem to genuinely believe he had offers from Championship clubs and turned them down to go to Sunderland as its such a big club!

I thought he had agreed terms with Luton and was signing on 1st July? Or was that just a rumour and not confirmed?

Feel like it was nothing but rumour and speculation. Such rumours made by people who clearly thought he was good enough, like myself.

Anyway, looks like David Meyler had his own snakey part in this.

Indeed, but the comparison was McFad v Willis. We don't know if the young ones will make it or not, we do know Willis is already more than competent at this level, probably the one above, and is young enough to improve further.

I think it’s worth trusting the judgement of Robins. Two seasons ago, Hyam was brought in as a development player and was 4th choice for much of our promotion season, the next season won player of the year.

Robins has a plan for the wider squad.

Just looks like he’s came on loan, horrifically unfit, and turned heads in the camp.

That’s certainly not an outrageous view. Personally, I believe Hyam will go on to a better CB given that he’s 1-2 years younger than Willis.

He's gone now! Would be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated that of all places he has gone there and stayed in League 1 as I thought he had earnt a shot at the champinship and that was the only reason he wouldn't stay with us. I wish him well but now it's time to turn our attention to cheering on the skyblue boys we have here and get us promoted and hope Sunderland don't!

Good servant to our club, I hope he succeeds in his future career (although not at our expense, obviously!!). Sunderland is a great opportunity for him (no, they are not our real rivals!!) and he's earned it. Saw him make his debut when he played as a full back after coming on as a sub in the Championship against table-topping Southampton at the Ricoh, he looked decent even that day aged 17. Good luck mate.

Hyam is ok at this level but he’s nothing special. He’s average.

Anyway we knew he was leaving. All the best. But I think we have a much better backline with the new signings.

That pretty much means all of our CB’s are average at best.

As far as I know there are no plans for more investment at this stage.

There are some right dribblers on that forum who don’t want to give the current owners a chance even though they’ve basically turned a complete financial basket case of a club around in the space of a year.

They’ve put the club on really sound financial footing, which is what was needed after years of excess under Ellis Short.

For some reason there are people on that forum who expect us to be chucking money about like there’s no tomorrow whilst we are in League 1, they don’t seem to want to acknowledge that is what got us into such a mess in the first place.

He was someone I respected as a committed loyal player. Had he gone up a league u can see why he would leave. But no, he has cashed in with our biggest rivals in this division very contemptible outcome.

Dom Hyam the ‘average’ player who won Player of the Season, Players Player and the Player of the season from 4 of our supporters club.

Bang average that fella.

Would you describe Paul Williams as an above average premier league defender?

He’s competent enough at this level but he’s poor in physical battles and lacks any pace. He has discipline and commitment which is ok at lower levels. If we ever got promoted he’d be gone

I don't think he's even guaranteed first choice this season tbh, i get the feeling it is Rose and McFadzean although that'd be harsh on Hyam

That he was speaking with Luton came from sources close to Jordan. Always the possibility hat Luton couldn't agree terms or got cold feet/had other irons in the fire.

I'm not sure what the furore is, as he gave us good service.

The first couple of yards is in the head, you don't always need pace to deal with pace. As long as you don't drop back 5 yards deeper than everyone else like that useless Scottish centre half we had a few years ago. Name escapes me...

Big loss, good player.
His whole whole dream to sign for the club, getting back where they belong, big club bollocks is dissapointing but the standard footballer moving club shite.
But in his heart of hearts he’s got to be a bit dissapointed.
They talk themselves up but sunderland are just another watford, can see us going up as much as them.

Don't think he will be disappointed.
Apparently had verbally agreed to join Luton.
Compare luton and Sunderland and the only thing Luton has going for it is standard of football. Add CCFC into the equation and, lets be honest here, out of the 3, (lets also throw Bristol City in too-rumored to have spoken to him) Sunderland- better ground, training facilities, fans in attendance, wages available to offer and also potential to play Championship football season after this.
This is a better move than to Luton for him by a country mile if we are looking at his life in general.
