On loan to Wrexham. Looks a much better fit than Tranmere ever was and (hopefully) a chance to bag a few goals and starts

TRANSFER: Jordan Ponticelli joins Wrexham on loan

Hope this works out for him. Desperately needs game time and to start banging the goals in.

Their manager is the old Walsall one Keates. Possibly may have been in charge when he scored against them in Checkatrade?

Crucial for him to kick on in this loan. Think it’s his last chance to impress Robins realistically

Finally, a level where he's suited. Whoever made the decision to loan him to Tranmere needs their head checking.

While I was surprised he got the Tranmere move, it's no Cov's fault that Tranmere signed 2-3 more strikers after Ponti joined them. Couldn't have seen that coming.

Sure that’s part of a conversation before the move. How much are you planning on using him, what sort of roll will he play, what are your training methods etc.

No definitely not. Very bizarre decision by both parties I guess.

From our end though, I think most thought it was odd that we considered him ready to play regularly at League One level. Pretty big ask given the stage he was at in his development - especially as he had never played in League One before. It just seemed like a very odd decision at the time and I think most agreed even before Tranmere brought in Ferrier and Hepburn-Murphy (I think it was) that it may be a step too far for him. Plus, you'd think them signing would've come into the conversation at some point when agreeing the loan? Obviously I amongst others would've been eating their words if he was already on double figures for Tranmere but the fact is he made 3 apps with no goals.

Glad sense has finally prevailed and I hope he kicks on.

I was hoping he'd move to at least League 2 level.
For a guy that was banging in goals for fun at U23 level and was described by the U23 coach as "our most natural finisher", it seems a big come down.
At one time, he had the best goals to minutes ratio of any first team striker.
I think he's been very badly managed. His injuries have been a major factor as well.
But why send him to Tranmere with nothing in the contract that he has to play any games?

Oh dear. The Conference is a much better standard than the 23s

They could have lied to cover all bases? Unless it's contracted he plays x amount, then they can do what they want.

Were they paying his wages too?

I looked up his stats, 3 full appearances according to Wiki, in a struggling L1 team.

Probably not exactly spoilt for choice, for clubs to send him to.
Also worth a gamble, see if he makes the step up with them, if he starts banging them in, we recall and add a few more goals to our team to help us push on. Also we aren't at the level to dictate how many times our loans play in. Surely the onus is on the player to make themselves unstoppable. He needs a successful loan, in terms of playing time.

You can't recall players outside of a transfer window.

Have a lot of family who are big Wrexham fans (poor sods have had it worse than us) so might be able to get some feedback.

Competitive football and regular games. Just what he needs, hopefully start bagging regular, for his and our sake. The biggest problem if we do get promoted he'll need a loan out again to a league club as massive jump from national to Championship and then he'll be out of contract.

Wrexham are non-league, I'm not sure the same rules apply.

Yes, I was responding to his loan at Tranmere, had he done well there we could have recalled him during this transfer window.

He’s never scored consistently at any level, no chance any league two side was going to risk it. This is last chance saloon for him really

Makes sense, start at the bottom and work your way up one league at a time.

Well according to the quality press that is the CT, Tranmere are in League 2 anyway!

I live in Torquay and go to a lot of home games. There’s a lot of goals scored in this league and Wrexham are on the up at present. I think this is a perfect move for him but if he doesn’t score at this level then times up.
He’s been given a life line here.

Think it's the perfect move for him to be honest. If he does have something he should score at that level, and I'm confident he will. Tranmere was never right for him and obviously last year was ruined by injury before he got going.

He has scored consistently at u18s and u23s so to say he hasn't at any level isn't right, but he needs adult football regularly and goals will come for him, the work rate the lad has is phenomenal!!

His goals per minute in our league 2 season was pretty good. As you say, needs senior football.
