I've just read that he's died and clicked on his Wikipedia page and it reads "McCririck is also a well known supporter of both Newcastle United F.C. and Coventry City F.C."

I know anyone can edit Wiki, but it would be a strange thing for someone to make up. Has anyone heard that before?

I think his side burns were season ticket holders.

If they were they'd have sat at the front with the mad hatters.

Nope... he has always been a huge Newcastle fan. Despite being a southerner, one of his uncles (I believe) supported them, and he took it from him.

That was always my understanding, so I've no idea where the link is from unless it was to do with eg the 87 run or something.

"A well known supporter of both Newcastle United and Coventry City, in recent years he appeared on numerous occasions"

This is from The Mirror so it must be true or they've just lazily copied and pasted from Wikipedia...

I remember when ITV used to do the big boxing events, and he would be there giving the prices. He also did it on Saint & Greavesie... talked about Newcastle... never Coventry.

Maybe he just hated Sunderland?

There's probably mileage in that, as in someone has put it down on wiki as a wind up to 'Soppy Sunderland' fans, as Big Mac referred to them as!

He was a larger than life character who was not afraid to speak his mind. While I did not always agree with his world view, we live in a society that self censors itself to appease snowflakes too much. RIP John and hope your odds on to have made it into the afterlife!!
