Got into a bit of a heated debate with some guy at the Crawley match regarding John Fleck! He was saying how useless he was and how better Thomas was playing then him.. i was genuinely in disbelief as i thought Thomas had a howler at Crawley and John was our best player!

Just a small poll and am curious for other CCFC fans thoughts... how highly do you guys rate John Fleck? Me personally am a huge fan his passing range is something out of this league!

On technical ability, the best in our squad. On stamina and pace, certainly amongst the worst in our squad.

On technical ability alone he is the best player we have, but he is massively let down by his physical attributes such as his fitness, pace and strength.

Reminds me a lot of Eastwood in that he has loads of talent but doesn't use it in the right areas.

Good point. I've noticed a lot of times how easily he gets knocked off the ball and seems to not have the physical characteristics for a footballer.. could be why he fell out of favor at Rangers so quickly.

S'cos it's true. I think our simultaneousness proves it!

Indeed it is, lad has got bag on bags of technical ability, his passing range in particular is phenomenal, but that physical side of his game majorly holds him back.

Real shame. He should have moved to Spain, not League 1!

I had him down as a starter in my starting 11 V Crawley following pre season. But I have to say I was very disappointed by his show at Crawley. Didn't go Orient so not sure how he performed that night.

That said, he was better than Thomas, but that wasn't difficult. He was awful. Worst I've seem him play.

I do think Fleck has the talent; just wish he'd show it more. His passing range is the best we have, and he can spot a long pass opportunity than than most. But he can't defend, and lacks in the fitness department.

He really should be for us as Charlie Adam was for Blackpool, especially at this level.

I think he needs to slim down a bit but his technical ability is awesome, far beyond our level. I think he needs to get fit enough to last 90 mins but not necessarily stray far from the centre spot and dictate play from there.

He should but he hasn't got Charlie Adams attributes, other than he can pass a ball.

His decision making on the ball is too slow. He gets pounced on and lays poor passes. I'm sure this will kick in after a few games.

He also got no strength and can't tackle. He certainly isn't good enough to play central midfield in a 442.

At least, with the size of our squad, he should get enough game time to get fit (provided he doesn't pick up injuries - which, i've a suspicion he is prone to)

Too lightweight in the tackle for me. That first goal against Crawley, from the TV replays, he just let the goalscorer through when he was close enough to put in a tackle. They always talk about the spine of the team being strong. We have Leon up front, Murphy in goal but where are the leaders in defence and midfield? Webster may sort out the problem in defence but we still need a Michael Doyle type player in midfield. Still can't work out what Jennings has done wrong. Feel our midfield would have been stronger with him in the team.

Passing Ability is top notch, just needs to get fitter then he could really dictate games from the middle I am yet to decide where his best position would be. Has alot of quality just need to find his best position to hurt teams more.

Didn't go Crawley but he wasn't great at Orient.

Thomas looked very good though.

I'm sick of people saying we need a doyle type player. Listen to what this sheff u fan said about doyle
Michael Doyle
Position/s: CM/DM
Age: 31
Previous Clubs: Coventry, Leeds
Fan Opinion: Club captain last season most fans hope that Doyle will be kicked into touch by Weir. A very unpopular figure due to his poor football ability and irritating repetitive comments about being the team being able to do better yet never improving himself.

Not seen much of anything from him. If the brain or desire isn't there, the nice touch is irrelevant.

Tipped him to be one of our players of the season when I watched him in pre season great vision and plenty of trickery could do with a bit more fitness work but that will come

He reminds me of the old type Scottish midfielders, there seemed to be one at every club, who would stand centre midfield and spray the ball around, those players just struggle to fit into the modern running game we now have. Think this season could be make or break for him in England

I thought Fleck was one of the better performers against Crawley and I didn't go to Leyton Orient mid week but he got some more good reports. Hopefully all that post season fitness work he is doing is starting to pay off.

Would rather see him in the centre alongside Barton instead of Thomas though.
