I agree Thomas is one of the best in division and personally I think he plays in prem for us if we go up

But lati doing very well when called upon.

We have a great squad and these players should be remembered fondly by fans not have clown memes made about them

It shouldn’t be reduced to something as simple as - FL has finally discovered he should have played Lati all along -

He’s just the right player at the right time for the task in hand. Doing the basics very well, trained hard, good attitude etc etc. But it doesn’t mean our other CBs are crap (although jury is out on whether Woolfie will succeed here or not).

He’s a good defender. Runs like he’s got dungarees on but still a good defender.

Still not sure I trust him and he runs like a ghost is holding onto his legs but he’s not put a foot wrong recently.

The 2 games he's started, he's impressed me. Reads the game very well. For a smallish centre half, he also wins a lot of headers. Only thing he lacks is pace which if we get promoted will be caught out a lot!

There must be some physiological reason that the likes of Saka and Lats win headers where Simms Wright and Woolfenden struggle. Harder to jump high when you’re bigger maybe?

A lot of it is reading the flight of the ball, knowing when to jump to be able to get it at the highest point you can reach.

There have been many tall players that end up jumping for the ball but end up tucking their head into their shoulders as they haven't judged the flight properly.

I didn't use to rate him much at all, but now realise that was due to my not being able to either spell or pronounce his name correctly.

Now I really like him

So keep it up, Joe.

It's timing of the jump.

Simms is horrendous at it. Wright, when off it, doesn't jump at all.

Speedie was the best header of a ball I've seen.

Winds me right up how often we don’t challenge for balls in the air as a team tbh. Simms’ timing for a long time was absolutely comical but he’s definitely improved. Still doesn’t jump like Lats or Saka though or he’d beat almost everyone in the air.

Jamie Allen also wins his fair share of headers, and he's the smallest player on the pitch!

As has been said if you are not asking him to play a really high line or play through a press Lats is very, very good at the defending part of being a CB.

Still scares the life out of me on the ball but we were leaking goals down our left side and he’s put a stop to that, don’t think we’ve lost when he’s played this season?

Lati comes in and we stop , its not rocket science

George Curtis was only 1 inch taller but no one got the better of him. Some players are small in stature can jump tremedously high I haven't noticed many get the better of Latibeaudiere. His play is simple but effective.

I think smaller players also have to master the technique more, especially timing the jump, in order to stand any chance whatsoever. When you're 6'4'' you can pretty much just stand there so don't spend as much time 'learning to jump'.

This speaks to my other consistent bug bear which is: it’s your fucking job how do you not put the effort in to get better? See also: using your weaker foot, throw ins, etc.

Same but at least I bothered to learn his name! He’s proving me wrong, just needs to keep playing the game to his own strengths.

Smaller players have less mass to launch for not much less in the way of leg muscle.

It's not just spring and timing to be effective winning headers. It's also using body strength when attacking the ball. Pound for pound he does this better than any of our players with the exception of Mason-Clark maybe.

I'm 6ft 2 and was decent at heading the ball, always remember 1 team I played the guy was smaller than me, but kept beating me to the ball, so as the ball came I took a step backwards which put him off and then I won it everytime. I was a thinking forward (thinking I was better than I was) but I was slow as fuck and would have made Lati look like prime Linford Christie

Simms always goes for the ball but often he’s no idea where it’s landed and by the time he spins around looking for it some bladdy defender has hoofed it away
