Does anyone have a feeling Burge could be like the new Kirkland? We have not had a good keeper from the academy since

Mmm...you say that as if he's crap. He's a good keeper and if Murphy goes (which I hope the doesn't) then he deserves his chance. Don't use it as another stick.

No I say it as he is here already and they are paying him why would they have any interest in bringing in a more expensive first choice keeper. I hope he is good as he is going to have to make a lot of saves next year.

I've said all along, if Burgey isnt ready, which im not sure he is, i'd go for Scott Flinders. Currently plays for Hartlepool. Low wages, not sure about his contract situation but he's a great keeper. Very much like Joe, great reactions but better handling. Very reliable and is in his prime at 27 years old

Bit of an understatement there

I think there is no intention of buying someone in unless profit can be made on them (this is not an anti SISU statement). I think Burge will get a crack and probably deserves it, I think even if he was dodgy he would still be in with a shout. One thing is for sure, he will be busy next year

People who have been suggesting names such as Fulop, Lonergan and Legzdins are forgetting 1 vital element. Wages. SISU will not pay a keeper more than 1K per week. Thats why it would be better to either stick with Burge and bring up a youth keeper as back-up, or bring in someone from League 2

What do you base the 1k thing on?

You never know TSBL. If their free, they may not have many offers and might consider what's put in front of them.

The lonergan one was mentioned by me, but didn't realise he was on the books of a championship team

I'd say £1k/week for a backup is a reasonable guess to be fair.

Say 23 players sharing a wage bill of what? £2m?

£2m/52 = roughly £38/39k a week for the whole squad (and manager).

If you pay your starting 11 and manager £2k/week that's 24k gone already, leaving just an average of 1.17k/week for the rest. Sure there'll be a fair few youth team players on less, but I'd wager the likes of Fleck, Webster, etc. are on a fair bit more than £2k/week as well.

It won't be much more than that anyway. Especially if we can't offload the likes of Baker, Adams and Barton who are all probably on more than that £2k average.

SISU wont be happy until we have a League 2 budget and League 2 players usually get around 1K per week. The big earners are all going. Murphy, Moussa, Adams and Barton probably next. Rumours going around that Baker took a pay cut to avoid being sold. SISU are bringing it down to L2 level cus if we continue going downwards, thats where we'll be

Baker is the only one left on real serious money, rumoured 8k a week

Seriously doubt he would be on that high wages. Murphy was only on like 4K. But as i said, im not Chairman of CCFC so i could be wrong lol

Bartons surplus to requirements anyway. Couldn't get a game for robins or Pressley and didn't make a single appearance on loan to Fleetwood. The league two average wage was £749 per week,

I still think he has potential. I remember when he came on at Barnsley. He changed the game. I know he has had some bloody awful games like Notts County, but he showed what he was capable of in Barnsley. Think its a shame to see him go. But he is on high wages

He's not only on high wages we paid a decent fee for him, and he's not even that young now at 23, he should be first choice at that age. He has good technique but mentally hasn't got it.

Plenty of poor players have had good games, it's doing it on a consistent that makes a good player.

It wasn't just Barton at Notts County. It can be tough when you are not playing regularly and the confidence isn't there. Then your team mates turn into dustbins on the end of a simple 8yrd pass.
