On trial at Bradford
Free transfer
Didn't go on their tour.
TM wants experience in the spine of the team

To me that is GK, CB, CM, ST

Ive seen a few people say hes on trial at Bradford... I might be wrong but I dont think he is. Another keeper is and the article mentions they are linked with Murphy. Having said this I wouldnt be surprised if he does end up there.

Burge is number one,
Mowbray says so, can't see that changing

How about we let Mowbray decide and fire up football manager.

I doubt if Spud Murphy would come back here anyway.

Be amazed if Murphy puts up with another season sitting on the bench.

He'd have to have an arm amputation to be on the bench - even then it would be a very close call - actually he'd still be number one against Bungler Burge.

Do you ever think players may actually read these forums, and that some comments may actually affect their confidence? We are called supporters for a reason, to fecking support. These critical commemts do nothing but wind you angry lot up. Get behind Burge, hes always going to give his all. TM picks him he doesnt pick himself. Whilst he is our number 1 get behind the lad

Did you miss the bit where TM said he wanted Burge as number 1?:

I like Burge BTW.
I would just have him do s season in div 4 and have Murphy in for one season.
If they do sign two decent strikers and are serious about top six. Murphy alone would be worth 10-12 points

Murphy would be a massive improvement to the team. He was the best goalie, in terms of shot stopping, in league one when we had him.

Yes a great shop stopper but I never felt he commanded his area

I disagree the lad had a lot of potential. He was thrown in too early due to finances. Although he was better than Allsop to be fair.
He did a season at nuneaton then this.
Hopefully he is now nearly ready but I would prefer one more year from an experienced goalie whilst Burge does his bit in division 4

I agree with you for the most part... But disagree about getting an exp goalie... The best way for burge to develop is to play at highest level possible... The best sports players are made from pushing just beyond their limits, let's give him th chance this year in league one and yes ofc he will make mistakes but all goalkeepers do so an learn from them. Hopefully he will get some good protection this year which will also aid his development.

Would rather we used the wage on some firepower than a goalkeeper.

You can win games without clean sheets but can't without goals.

No he doesn't. Not many keepers seem to dominate their box. I don't think the return of Murphy is the answer although I do think an experienced keeper alongside Burge would help him develop. I think burge still has a long way to go before I would count him as first choice keeper.

How many threads about Burge?

He will be our keeper this season, TM has said as much.

for what its worth, here's my two pennyworth on the goalkeeper situation. Season before last, and the year before that too, we conceded a lot of goals from corners and balls crossed into the box. Murphy, for all of his shot stopping, was awful on crosses. Everyone blamed the defence but a lot of it was down to Murphy.
Burge is certainly better at taking crosses and this has stopped some of the goals coming from that direction. The downside is that he's made the odd mistake here and there but overall he improved as the season went on. Murphy made the odd cock up too though remember.
Neither Murphy or Burge were great with their kicking although I'd hope that Burge s working on his as I type.
Overall both have their positives and negatives, but I'd stick with Burge. He's more experienced than last season, has age on his side and will only improve.

Spot on, he did not fill me with confidence but I do think that he improved greatly towards the end.

Murphy is the best keeper we've had since we were relegated from the PL apart from Westwood.

It always sticks in my mind that Jim Blyth, on CWR, was always pretty scathing of Murphy. Now personally I couldn't see it but it does make you stop and think if we just look at the spectacular, and not the dirty work.

Correct! People also saying that Burge done well/got better towards the end of the season-are we all forgetting about the Crewe game?
