What was he doing for the 2nd goal???

He was appealing for offside prior to Beckford even hitting the ball....not saying that he was going to save it, but an attempt would have been good....

Agreed...he either makes blinding saves or complete fuck ups. Wish he would do the basics better.....

Regardless of whoever it was, it should never have been played back to him in the first place. It came about 15 minutes into the second half where we had started getting a fair bit of posession, and although not dominating or carving out chances we looked as comfortable on the ball as we had done all game (first half very much like Barnsley in which passes were misplaced/balls given away). We had the ball in the Leicester half and all of a sudden in ends up being played back to Murphy under a bit of pressure. His clearance, not the best and yes the resulting throw in led to their second goal, but why did we go backwards 60 yards in the first place? Blame attacking players not making space/runs and so forcing play backwards? Blame a lack of creativity or nervousness in not wanting to try an ambitious forward pass? Blame a slow regrouping from when the ball was played out for the throw in? Blame not following the run of Nugent who then cut the ball back across goal? Several things at fault there so people need to stop using Murphy as a scapegoat all the time.

I remember that time Barthez stood with his arm up when Di Canio was clear through and subsequently scored. 'Play to the whistle' should be written on a big stick and then every player who doesn't should be hit repeatedly with said stick.

Without a doubt he has. As people have said on here in the past, having Murphy in goal shows how much we replied on Westwood when he was here. He saved us countless points per season where as Murphy has cost us countless points

I agree mate. This isn't having a pop at Murphy, but when he makes a fuck up (as at Blackpool, Reading and Fester in recent weeks)....you have to call it as you see it.

Having said that, I thought he made a crucial save against Leeds at 1-1.

Does he win us more points than he costs us? I don't think he does.

He also made a good penalty save yesterday from Danns! FFS get off his back it aint all his fault!! The defence is cack and the finger should be pointed elsewhere!

We have the players that we can afford. I have contacts here in Scunthorpe that told me that Murphy was not a good keeper before we signed him.

Always has to be someone for the fans to hate in the team doesn't there.

Lets try to get past Westwood - he is sitting on a bench earning 5 times what we could afford to pay him. Murphy is a decent keeper,clearly not a Westwood but then few keepers have his ability. If he were as good as Westwood do you think he would be playing for us?

Bit unfair to labour the point about how much the last line of defence has let us down - he should have better in front of him, he should have a team playing higher up the pitch, he should have the tactics of a team focussed on beating the opposition not playing passionless, ineffective pretty passing round our own box. But hey its all Murphy's fault isnt it

totally agree however he's not commanding or communicating in the area that's why sometimes there's panic,I no u were at blackpool and tho Herman got some stick Murphy could've done better then there's reading away the list goes on and we can clearly see how westwood alone kept us up

In my opinion, Murphy seemed to struggle at start of the season as he spilled some balls that led to goals, and he didn't seem to go up for crosses. But i think since then he has been quite solid, he has made some vital superb saves. I think he has done a good job so far. I think he seems good at rushing out and getting to the players quick to make the saves.

(But not Leicester's second goal though!!)

The discussion was about Joe Murphy and his mistakes this season. However, his strengths were also highlighted...a balanced argument you may say.

You then claim that there 'always has to be someone for the fans in the team to hate'.

This totally misrepresented what your fellow post-ers were saying in the discussion taking place...who was stating that Murphy is/should be a '...hate...' figure????

You labelled the fans as '..always wanting someone to hate..'...seemingly referring to those that had taken part in this thread as you had posted your comment on this thread....but nothing could be further from the truth....where was this '...hate'...' that you proclaim to be evident amongst OUR fans????

Post-ers were merely engaging in a balanced argument/discussion, based on what people had seen...no extreme reactions, no 'hating' or asking fans to 'hate'.....and then you come along with your analysis of '...hating...' Joe Murphy....that's a great way of uniting the fans, eh???? Talk about labelling fans incorrectly who merely want to express an opinion, engage in a discussion after what THEY HAVE SEEN....

It seems that you don't like any discussion/criticism of Murphy (despite his errors and limited performances this season), and anyone who dares engage in such a discussion is someone who wants a hate figure....grow up, man!!!!

Forum = discussion/debate/state what you have seen....not just label your fellow fans as 'hating' the players (when nothing could be further from the truth) because they dare discuss the merits/limitations of some players....ok, you seem to like Murphy, so do I, but you do not have the right to label me as 'hating' CCFC players (and thus implying/highlighting me as working against the players/team).

Agree with this 100%. Up until Brighton away he was terrible - wouldn't move off his line and couldn't catch to save his life. Since then my opinion of him has changed. Still capable of a blunder here or there (Reading away was a prime example... awful mis-judgement) but then big saves against Leeds, amongst others makes my opinion of him shoot up. Even Westwood made mistakes (certainly in his last season with us) but I think a mistake by our attack led to the 2nd goal for Leicester more than him waving his hands. Overall I rate him far higher since Christmas and Dunn vs Southampton was far more dodgy in goal than Murphy has been and as someone else said, I wouldn't throw a young keeper into a relegation dogfight.

you have to be very careful criticising players these days. Back in the day we would have a laugh about the game, take the piss out players, but its all too sensitive in the modern day marshmallow and fairy dust world of the city fan. One minute you're commenting on a goalkeepers command of his box next you're accused of hating him and he's off for counselling ;-D

I think Murphy is a decent solid keeper who has got better as season has gone on and has made some crucial save to preserve/win us points.

My one gripe is sometime he parries forward rather than pushing to the side away from goal. he was not to blame however for the woeful defending for first goal and second goal though we cocked up from an offensive position for second as well.

He is okay for this league however he's very jekyll and hide in his ability but in the current climate he's the best we can afford,I'm not knocking him and it must be hard to play in a side that's gaurenteed to concede a goal almost every game,I think we were spoilt with westwoods ability but his attitude to others apparently let him down.

He was very vocal with his back 4 at the start of the season. Is it just me, or has he quitened down a bit.

At Reading, I sat down the front for the first half, he was very quiet....apart from a few muttered expletives when the first goal went in....

Murphy has become a good all round keeper since being here. He commands his area always here him shouting and has made some great saves. Even England's old number one James flapped at a few.

I sometimes think he and the defence think think they know what there doing and don't bother communicating thank god for keogh at least he tries at times to organise them,if a team gets a free kick there's never much talk re the wall the players just stand where they think
