Just isn't fit enough I'm afraid.

Saw lameiras after the game and he and Murphy must be disappointed to not play behind him in the line up

Unless he can play 90 minutes, he should not be in the starting line-up. Bring him on as a sub after about 60 minutes (if needed). I'm thinking we must have an agreement to give him so many minutes or to start him in x many games because otherwise it makes no sense..

Seemed to slow every opportunity we had down.

He wasn't alone with poor final balls, but I can't say I'd have played him from the start today.

Can't understand why people under rate Cole so much yet cream themselves over Vincelot. Each to their own I guess

Put in some beautiful deliveries from set pieces but other than that looks off the pace.

His passing was poor today, I can understand fitness given his age and injuries etc, but every time he was put under pressure his passing was bad. Also didn't seem to have a good understanding with Armstrong who looked isolated today

Vincelot breaks things up he does all the graft and lots of little things that never take the headlines. He is the reason Fleck is a different player to last year. The reason JOB looks less like a headless chicken. Cole's job is to create and so far he has done it from a free kick and a corner...too much of a luxury. I am sorry but at 34 and his lack of football since 2013, it is more his legs have gone rather than lacking fitness. for me the Sheffield United game went away from us with the introduction of Cole.

If Cole wasn't fit for Port Vale I wouldn't be bothered, but we would really miss Vincelot.

He has not started many tbf - I'm not writing him off yet..........I think the loan situation will sort itself out with people going back etc
in January one way or the other anyway - we have almost too many loans or too many doing the same thing at the moment.

I'd heard he was only training 3 times a week with Villa as he'd stayed living in London. Anyone know what his situation is with us?

One to come off the bench for me at present, quality set pieces mind.

Fair enough.
I like Vincelot, but would swap him for one of half a dozen league one midfield water carriers. I rate Cole much higher than the general consensus on here, but then again I rate Moldovan higher than Cedric Roussel, I suppose you get the team you deserve, it's all about opinions, that's football.

I think Vincelot & Cole are two very different types of players with different roles which make comparing them like for like
almost impossible they have different jobs.......having played role Vincelot does can guarantee he does so much that general fans will not see to allow the forward players to have more license to flourish!

I made a point of watching him today and thought he was very good at keeping the ball. Every time he got the ball two men were on him and I don't think he lost the ball more than once or twice. People in front of him need to make more runs for him to put the ball through or into space.
He hasn't been brought in to run himself into the ground for 90 minutes. He has the vision and the ability to pick a pass if the runners are there for him to pass to.

I said from the beginning that I couldn't understand TM taking on Joe Cole. He just doesn't gel in my opinion. Never rated him before, when he was a "high profile" player.

He seems to want too much time on the ball at the moment, the kit lady must be having a terrible time getting the black marks off the kit ,where the rest of the team are carrying cole..

Would rather have Cole on that Fortune, cannot see what he brings to the team. We lost our way for a while when Turner went off but fought our way back. When Fortune came on it seems Oldham suddenly became the better team.
Sorry, but I am not seeing anything positive about having Fortune in the squad, Tudgay is much better.

I thought he was more involved today than in all games so far, in fact worst performance was when he scored that great free kick just before going off. If he gets fit and leaves it will be disappointing, if he stays then we need to ease him back in because natch fit he would tear this league up. I love madders but he was off the pace after injury and no thread slagging him off so don't understand this one from another player slowly returning from injury.

Comparatively yep. I couldn't believe how many touches Cole needed each time to get it under control.

What I mean is I expected stuff to happen when Maddison had the ball but not when Cole had it. Apart from from the dead ball

He had a great chance in that first half, but seemed to take an age to try and control the ball.

Lets be honest he is just not the player he was, and may be he should retire this season. He is not going to be another Dennis Wise. Harsh but true.

He has to be sent back, realistically. Or give him a job coaching our kids.

Thats what worries me because it has nothing to do with fitness issues as he got himself into the position to take the shot. All he had to do was control the ball and take the shot and wasn't able to do that easily. It suggests that it is not only a problem with getting him up to speed but his ability is just not there any more.

Hopefully he can prove me wrong but I am worried his signing may turn out to be an unwelcome distraction

On his day he was brilliant for Chelsea etc and also good for England, but is he too far past his sell by date? I seriously wanted him to be another Dennis Wise but atm he is more like Dennis Waterman, fat and slow I cannot see him getting any better and we have better prospects not getting a game that are our future...sadly return him to the Vile

There really is no room for sentiment here.
He's keeping younger more able players out of the team.
His decline is sad really when compared to Dennis Wise who was much older and hadn't played for around 6 months prior to joining us.
When you take into consideration the number of ATM 's, wide players we have at the expense of either more defensive cover or maybe a GK.

It's knee jerk city in here. Cole is still away from match fitness (should be playing in u21 games imo). Still too early to make a judgement.

But then some might counter that with the premise that he's never going to regain any semblance of match fitness. Seems pointless even having him if he's so far gone, in fitness terms, that he can't perform at this level.

Part of me wants to keep hold of him though, dunno why. Expectation probably.

Aye, but in all seriousness, what's the point in him being here if he's still struggling to be fit? For L1?

Someone needs to have a chat with Cole, maybe point out that his career is definitely on the wane and he's struggling. I'd offer him a job coaching the youngsters, myself, he'd be far more productive teaching than trying to rescue his career. Imo, anyway.

As someone said he's not had u21 games. He's come through specialised training and now had aboit 80 mins on pitch

Few more games before I decide if he's finished or not personally

1 goal 1 assist. Hopefukly those stats grow in the next month

Makes you wonder what the hell Villa were doing with him to regain his fitness...sod all by the looks of it. Premiership team, top training and medical staff? Pfft.

Ok, I'll concede, a few more games and we'll see where he is.
