Enigmatic match winner, or predictable and wasteful?

Not the best at all today, different player that came here.

He needs to learn when to shoot and when to time waste.

He isn't the reason we aren't scoring though, it is that every time he gets the ball the players should break their neck to fill the box for the cross.

He's only 19...

It's the likes of Kyel Reid which worry me more.

Kyel Reid is a very good player, as long as he doesn't cross or shoot.

Hes struggling being the only creative outlet at the moment.

We saw the same with Murphy last season, he struggled after Kent left because the responsibility was all on murphy to carry the ball and create.

Teams are doubling up on Jones as they know they stop him and they stop us going forward. We need another creative player who can exploit the space left by teams doubling up on Jones

the trick in that being teams will then have more than one threat to worry about meaning they can't double up on jones which then gives him more space to do his thing.

There is no excuse for his pathetic diving though, it was embarrassing

I wonder what he's being told to do? Personally I'd just say to him when you get the ball go for it and when you get an opening take a shot.

A caller to the after match phone in made a very valid point: he cannot cross as he is so left footed. That being the case the left back only needs to show him outside to nullify his threat, and if he comes inside then he has two players on him. What he needs is an overlapping right back to put the initiative and momentum back with the attacking side: the left back is then in two minds as to whether to follow the man with the ball (Jones) therefore leaving his centre back one on one with a guy with apace, or follow the man making the run..."is he going to come inside and be a threat, or can he pass to the outside where there is another threat"

Our right back was overlapping before he got injured.

The trouble with Jones his the movement in front of him. When he cuts inside and looks up there's so many gaps for through balls but nobody making any runs

He ain't ready yet, has promise but let's remember where he has come from, the bottom of division 2. Needs to play with more experienced players imo.

Wouldn't it be worth playing him on the left?

I thought DKE showed far more desire to bomb forward than Sterry.

I mist say neither Sterry nor Page look any better than Haynes or DKE.

I agree with this. I wasn't going to say anything but is it me or is Page your typical modern day footballer?

Too busy with his image for example hair, smaller tighter shirt does fuck all but try's to Look pretty if that makes sense?

Haynes did my head in last season, but this season his crossing and attacking play has improved a lot.

Completely agree with this and I guess we have made a commitment to West Ham and Newcastle that they will get game time.

For me we should be developing Haynes and DKE.
Phillips and DKE would have been fine competing for right back this season.

I thought Sherry and Jones interlinked very well 1st half. Creating a couple of openings with one or the other dragging the left back out of position.

He is at the club and playing at the level he is for a reason. Over 30 scouts watched him over time and he is here, say no more. Young potentially going to be a decent player but at what level who knows.

Have you ever been a Football Manager, if not then you should be . Because if you can see it, the guy on the after match phone in can see it and I can see it .

WHY CAN'T TONY MOWBRAY SEE IT.

Not sure, for me DKE should be out on loan to a Nuneaton or similar. Nowhere near the required standard at the moment.

I do prefer our youngsters getting a loan for a season to a level or two below. However only if I think there is a better player blocking their path.
On this occasion I feel we are just developing somebody else's youngsters for them. Who are not much, if any better than the two we have.
Felt the same when we had ryan allsop.

Yeah it's the problem with loans innit.

Matt Mills is the best eample I can think of - shit for us, but we helped make his career!

Even the players we own we are developing for somebody else, if a player is a year loan they are the same as a player we have on a one year deal to me.

Putting a young player in a losing team is a good way of destroying their confidence.

He still seems confident just not ready and makes bad decisions and he seems to try yo do too much to carry some of the others.

The only reason Haynes is still here is the injury to stokes. He's a defensive car crash.

The other guy is too inexperienced and again with rose injured the loan is to replace that.

Jones was terrible yesterday. Weak and didn't seem to have a brain.

Players look to give him the ball, but when he gets it he doesn't seem to have any killer instinct or understanding of what he should do with it. Reminds me of Kent a little bit. Bags of skill, but zero end product.

Unfortunately the loan that came in is arguably less experienced than DKE.

I sat behind a couple of scouts yesterday - one was watching Jones, he left after 70 minutes and didn't seem impressed actually said as he was leaving to another scout "he's too predictable, does the same thing all the time"

Jones is a very good player! I would change formation 4 3 2 1 play spence with him see what happens, this formation is not working.
