Youre pushing this third choice thing a lot, but we do often play with two AMs, so a third would be first choice reserve in many cases.

Honestly, I just genuinely don't understand his responses to my posts.

But yes we are probably going to look at bringing in another AM to support O'Hare in the summer so granted there would be an understudy theoretically for either/or however I just don't think it'll be Jones.

Im telling you that's a different argument to the rest of it, and I agree with you there, and you want to argue that we don't agree! I'm not even getting into the rest of it, as unlike methuselah I don't have all eternity.

I still genuinely don't fully understand what you're getting at so I think it's best we leave it there.

I'll repeat, for your second point, that's a totally different argument to the rest of it.

You appear to be determined to argue with me there when I'm agreeing with you! That's not particularly Astute.

The third choices are in the U/23s & U/18s Howley now getting on the bench Bapaga, back in the fold the Burroughs brothers there are one or two others. You just have to hope they are good enough and give them support.

I would keep him, He will be on low wages, we are severely lacking in attacking midfield players / wingers. Robins has been very cautious with him this season, and it's either that he's bringing him back slowly, or doesn't rate him. If it is the latter, I find it strange he has been named on the bench so many times. We have supported him back from his 3 ACL's and to release him after a year, when he's not had a chance to prove himself just seems strange. I have no doubt a fully fit Jodi Jones is a Championship player

Hasn’t he been fit most of the season? And I don’t really understand the other point, if he can’t get a chance when we’re severely lacking numbers in his position why would he next season when we’re likely to improve the squad?

Strangely though I seem to recall that Robins did mention Jones in an interview recently as if he wasn't completely out of contention. I think he's the only player remaining from before Robins took over.

If he was going to get games at any point it would be now when we can barely put a team together.

I think the relationship broke down during the vaccine shenanigans and we'll move on.

Don't have full details but heard it was quite minor and the procedure successful so he should be back within a few weeks

Really want Jodi to succeed. Feel he has some of the attributes to do so. Determination, good close skills and the ability to cross, dribble and shoot. Thought he was slowly easing himself back before Covid and the latest setback. My concerns are how does he fit into the team as a starter and on his last sub performance, I realised there was a distinct lack of physical contact going on, ie not tackling. This may be a mental thing considering his injuries, but you have to compete fully at this level. As a team, we press from the front and have to engage defenders. I am sure MR and AV have a plan for Jodi. Otherwise, if we offer a low contract, he may get a better offer. I really do hope he does well with us.

There isn’t a plan. Da Costa has played more minutes this season

The problem we have with releasing the likes of Shipley and Jones is that we need to replace them with like for like wages.

I'd imagine both of them are two of the lowest paid players in the division.

In a dream world, we'd be able to make additions while keeping them as back up. We've struggled with depth this season.

Exactly, and they are both left-footed, Maatsen likely to return to Chelsea at the end of the season and JCS not signed a contract yet all left sided.

Neither play unless we're completely desperate. We would be better off getting rid of the likes of Pask, Shipley, Jones and all the other dead wood and bring in 2 players on their wages who can actually compete. The problem with our squad isn't depth. It's the lack of quality of the depth we do have. We only have probably 14 players you would expect to do a job in the Championship.

Jones is still living on scoring a hattrick against an ageing Richard Duffy.

Possibly, but it's easier said that done. Shipley and Pask will be on so little that even their collective wages wouldn't stretch far at this level.

True. But throw the wages of Jones, Da Costa, in as well, Suddenly 8k is freed up. One player who can actually offer something to the team is better then 4 who offer nothing.

But we need more than one first teamer to improve. Need probably 2CB, a LWB and an ACM. Strikers will only change if we get rid of Walker or Waghorn, who would likely be on enough to get in a first team replacement for similar wages.

There seems to be a bit of assumption that Jones would want to stay. There has been plenty of opportunity for Jones to play this season if MR had wanted to play him. As mentioned, Jones has been fit for most of the season, but can't even pick up minutes as a sub or cup games. Surly, if he truly backs himself he'll want to find a club where he's guaranteed game time. After all his rehab he now needs a club where he can start enjoying his football.

I agree and have stated similar elsewhere, it was just a general idea that these 4 produce absolutely zero towards the first team, so 'trading' them in for 1 player to come in and effect games would be a big improvement in the squad. We need further investment elsewhere. I just don't buy this idea that we need these players around because they're a cheap option. The club could literally pick a fan out of the stands every week, give them 8 grand and it would give the same return as those 4 players.

That’s a really hash comment. Jones didn’t just score that hat trick and then disappear. Until his injury he was our best player that season. His performances were good enough to attract the attention of Leeds and it sounds like had he not been injured then he would have been a Championship player4 or 5 years ago.

His performances since then have been brief, for obvious very unfortunate reasons. Even in these he has shown something. I watched him when he came on as a sub in our 4-2 win at Bradford and his skill and trickery on the ball was amazing. He scored the winner at Southend and even this season made Godden’s equaliser at Huddersfield. I thought he looked good in his half an hour at Southampton.

If it hadn’t of been for his brush with COVID and this latest problem then he surely would have been given a lot more pitch time recently. I don’t like having a go at our players but I am sure that he would have more of an impact on games than Shipley in his midfield role (thought he was good at wingback).

Hopefully he might get one or two starts before the end of the season to show what he can do. He certainly needs to be playing games now so if he wasn’t a candidate for starting matches in the way that say Jamie Allen has this season (ie a good chance of playing) then for his own sake he needs to move.

I know it's a completely different level but Jodi Jones literally tore that division to shreds in those few months.

I genuinely think we'd have finished in the top 2 with him.

Of course that led to a system change which got the best out of McNulty who scored 28 goals

Fair point although Jodi would have been pushing for big numbers. He was lightyears ahead of that level at the time.

He was getting nowhere near those figures, he scored 5 in 22. McNulty 28 in 51 (including cup games for both). He wasn't 'lightyears ahead', he was very good at that level, no doubt.

He was excellent but I wouldn’t say light years ahead of it. We were too reliant on him before the enforced change of system.
I really wanted him to come back and succeed but a lot of the posts above are talking about goals/games from 3-4 years ago. The fact he has hardly featured this season suggests that the writing is already on the wall.

Such a bloody shame for someone that's had the most wretched of luck with injuries, I'm certain he would have been a key player for us.
Sadly I have to concede his days in sky blue may be numbered.

Yep, difficult time for him in the summer trying to get fixed up with another club with so little football played.

If he could stay injury free he would definitely do a job in league one not sure he can do it in championship regularly now it maybe a bridge to far for him

Having Jones around next season doesn't really effect anything in the bigger picture for me. if fit he is a very capable player that adds depth to the squad, but thankfully this decision it's not up to me. MR will have to have answers before decisions are made on him. Firstly is he happy at fighting for a spot in the squad, will his body be strong enough to play weekly games and does his money effect the potential of bringing in or extending a younger player coming through.

He seems a good fella doesn't seem to create an issue and has shown determination to play the games he cares about. I would keep him and hope he forfills his potential with us. But I don't think MR is a sentimental thinker, or a manager that is not fully understanding of the clubs model. If he doesn't get the answers he wants Jones will be shown the door. If MR gets the answers about wanting to fight for a spot and money situation then I think the amount of games at the start of next season could be the determine factor on the outcome for Jones. This may also apply to others like Shipley, Macfazden and Kelly.

The question marks were over whether he could perform at a higher level. Granted he was young but he didn’t pull up any trees in league one the season before. If I recall he wasn’t a first choice then.

add in stunted development, and a huge jump in league standard I’d say those question marks remain.

league two was horrendous in terms of standard, we’re currently miles away from those levels. Look at McNulty, he scored 28 goals. He’s never looked like a league one player let alone championship

There is no way he deserves another year on his contract. He's been unlucky with injuries but even when he has been fit he just isn't good enough or he would of featured more this season and I think he always will be prone to injuries. Maybe he will make it in League 2/1.
