Palace able to sign him as you cannot make changes to 25 man named squad list... Loop hole triggered.

He can't play for them though can he?

Due to registration window rules, Freddie will not be eligible to play for Crystal Palace’s senior team until July 1st so he will spend the remainder of this season playing development and behind-closed-door games and adjusting back to the life of full-time football. We look forward to the 2016/2017 season and seeing how this exciting next stage of Freddie’s career progresses.

Different to the Jones deal then, I assume we wanted him to be able to play anyway so is completely different

Definately Jodi Jones. I trust him implicitly on that. Trust me. With regards to transfer rules outside the Windows in general? I think NW has blown that one wide open

He can't. You can sign a player on a permanent deal whenever you feel like it, however.

Not really. The deal was always a loan, with it being made a permanent contract in the summer.

Now where are you prevented from putting the latter half of that in writing?

Different transfer/loan rules for different leagues, eg premiership, football league, national league and below.
I believe we did a loan deal that has the most commonly used view to a permanent deal loop hole.
I'm sure if the deal was far from done we'd not be putting him in the shop window in a higher league than he was playing in. We'd have him under wraps.

Yes, but surely we wanted to play Jones this season? Hence it is different.

In palace deal the league rules would of prevented a non league team (Margate) from selling a player, could be the difference between life or death for a non league club. Hence why non league teams are not bound by the transfer window.
Thats most likely why is needs premier league and football league approval.
Transfer is not gonna impact palaces season

It's the difference between life and death for league clubs too.

You can sign a player whenever, you just can't play them if they've signed after the window.

So we should have signed Jones but not played him?

We don't even know the terms do we before getting all worked up about it.

I'm afraid to say it's not me getting worked up and trying to find excuses. I am just stating the options available, and how it reads.

Surely it's fairly simple??

You sign a player permanently in the transfer windows, you can play them whenever.

You sign a player permanently outside of the transfer windows, you cannot play them until the next window opens.

If you want to sign a player permanently outside of the transfer windows and play them, you need to sign them on loan with a view to a permanent deal once the window opens.

Quite right the way clubs are run these days. ( I'm gonna regret putting that comment on this site )
I've heard of some loan deals that have cash involved too.... I've tried a quick search of rules on transfers but found nothing concrete.
Maybe daggenham are financially sound and are happy to wait for a higher fee come july 1st rather than a panicked deal now

Keep the peace...
too many hot headed conversations on here.
No one no's it all, we may just learn something to expand our knowledge.
I doubt anyone on here is a football agent who knows the full ins and outs.

I remember being absolutely gutted that we let him slip for such a trivial amount of money. Mind you, if the rumours about his exit from Wolves were true, maybe we got lucky.

TM and MV have "Waxed lyrical" about how good this boy is. If he is as good as they both say, why didn't we buy him and leave him on "Loan" till the next window? Common sense to me. We haven't signed him but now have seen how good he really is.... Such a pity that every Club in Britain now have too.

Struggling to understand you... It's like you want the deal to fall through.
I'm gonna stick my neck out and say TM, MV have secured the deal.
Surely its not paddy the Greek and sunglasses Ron doing the deal!
My take is bring him in on loan to develop him our way, get him up to speed used to the ground, facilities and training regimes and game time, hence the loan part of the deal. Seems a straight forward deal.
Shoot me if this all goes tits up like you seem to indicate it will.

I'd be amazed if they hadn't.

Just the words 'in principle' are slightly nervy ones to use!

(were they always in the ccfc website article on him signing btw?!?)

Suppose tbf it'd explain why we took him on loan first, and why Southampton got rid.

I guess he'd sorted himself out by the time he got to Southampton and finally realised his potential.

And yes, Sandy Robertson...

Yeah I got it the wrong way round, confused him coming to us, from them.

Thankfully Google can allow me to elegantly pretend I remembered all along it was Huddersfield

The extreme opposite Steve. Why not pay the pennies and sign him up. That way he's ours. Why risk other Clubs seeing him play on TV? Seeing how good he is and stealing him from us. Situation Sounds good in principle, but could turn out s**t for us if we, as someone has suggested could happen(Get gazumped)

Because if we bought him, he wouldn't have been able to play until next season.

This way he gets to play for us, then we buy him at the end of the season.
