What is it with our ex players who weren't really that good signing for teams above us? Davis, Dunn and now Jeffers.

Clearly they see something within them that we did not.

It's got to be a Sisu conspiracy. Definitely.

Promotion rivals? Let's get some daylight between us and the relegation zone before looking in that direction.

Yes promotion. Banging the goals in. Only Wolves and Peterborough will last the course of the season. Orient will fall away. We will go up via the Play-offs. If only we did not have the docked points. Anyway, Quote me on it. UP VIA THE PLAY-OFFS.

You do realise that even with out fantastic form we have only closed the gap by 1 point on the top six over the 11 games? You say only wolves and Peterborough will last the distance, I remember plenty saying the same about most of the top 6 last season. And with our threadbare squad a couple of injuries to key players I.e either of the front pair, fleck or Webster and we will struggle.

55 points plus 10 would have left us around 12th at best a long way off the play offs. The truth is we couldn't win key games last year and our form fell away.

The truth is this year we haven't played form teams yet. The next three games will give us a clearer measure of any progress made. Strength and depth still remains a worry.

We are still making up ground at the moment.

There is some argument that the points deduction cost more than 10 points as a demotivating factor. I don't necessarily agree but I don't think we'd have made the play offs either way once Clarke was injured.

Nobody seems to be focusing on the most depressing aspect of all in this thread - we are now a less successful club than Peterbourough. It was never like this in my day. Fucking hell.

True, just think throwing us in to the mix puts unnecessary pressure on a young squad, and starts to raise expectations. Even Pressley has said the priority is avoiding relegation and he expects our young squad to have a dip in form.

Less successful on what basis? We're in the same league. They've just signed one of our cast offs.

Jeffers looked better than Wilson a year ago.

2nd favourites for promotion, playing in their home town, and not potentially at risk of going out of business at any minute. That basis?

Surely even being in the same league is depressing enough for any Coventry fan over the age of 25.

Basically they are on trial, so they have a month or so to impress, so for that month they bust their balls to show enough to be offered a deal, said deal is probably on a lower wage than previously, which is low enough for a club to think its worth a risk.

Which of our supposed prospects have left us and then gone on to better things?

Based on? Both looked pretty woeful, but at least Wilson got a good goal v Colchester.

You could argue our 2 losses in a row was a dip in form. Perhaps we can go and go on a decent run?

In that case, it's been that way for over 2 years probably! Wasn't the best time to point it out on a thread regarding a player we didn't want anymore!

Really?

Jeffers had not really shown anything, we had not seen much of Wilson due to injury and any appearances made were on the right hand side of midfield. It was under Robins which we saw him play up front and he showed some promise. Dont forget under Pressley at the tail end of last year he was played up front on his own and struggled to hold the ball up, since returning this season this aspect of his play has improved immeasurably.

Nah, a dip in form is a 5-6 game run rather than back to back losses. I'd say 20 points from 11 games is a decent run. I'm not being negative just think we shouldn't be building expectations up, in 11 games we've pegged back 1 point.

I agree, but I suppose it depends how well we do, if we continue at this rate then 2 straight losses would be considered a dip in form.

Task for us now, is to keep the points tally ticking over, would be awesome to reach playoffs, would have been a probability had we not had a 10 point deduction, it's still a possibility, no managers are surprised at how we are doing, but I'd take avoiding relegation for this season.

We would be sat in the play-offs if it weren't for the ten point penalty there are definately reasons to be optimistic, the next five games will determine where we are and if play-off's are realistic, in my opinion I believe they are.

I agree you have to allow for the loss of points demotivating people. But even before that we really struggled with teams above us we really needed to beat to reel them in. It's one of those we will never know the answer to, but I honestly don't think we were really good enough. But even to have just been in the running to the end would have been good.

Don't get me wrong Rob, I'm over the moon with the way we've been playing, I just think eyeing up play offs is a bit premature just yet, and puts pressure on such an inexperienced side.

Yeah, they are toughy's and as good going forward as we are, we're very vulnerable at the back. Unbeaten in those 3 would be a major plus.

I was all for the play offs last year, thought we had a good chance especially around Christmas time.

This year though I think they will be out of our reach, our squad isn't big enough and our defence isn't good enough to grind out the 1-0 wins when we hit a goal drought. Could happen but unlikely imo

Agree. Robins' success was overstated but the damage to the season was done in the disastrous August and September.
