Missed this yesterday but why wasn’t he on the bench? Guessing injured but don’t see where he’s going to figure this season.

Even with Jordan going out on loan if we were to bring Chaplin in it looks like Max as target man, Chaplin as poacher and the two new lads playing out wide.

The forward positions are still all up for grabs. It is understandable MR is going to give his new signings first stab at staking their place in the team, but it will be a month or two before we see the true pecking order evolve.

If no Chaplin, on the basis of two games it sounds like we ought to hang on to Ponti after all. He is the only one of that type of striker we have

Although today was one of his better games, I still don't think JCH has got many goals in him. He is never in goalscoring position , in fact he is rarely in the 18 yard box at all. I think if he played every game this season, he won't score more than 6 or 7.
What does he bring to the team that MR can see and I can't? I accept MR knows far more about football than I do, but I'm not sure what JCH brings to the party. Although Biamou has his critics, I reckon JCH is less effective. Do we need someone else to play alongside Chaplin now that Max is out for the forseeable??

the only striker we have who busts a gut to get into the box is Ponticelli, (I exclude Chaplin because I haven't seen enough of him).

The fact you criticise Clarke Harris for not being in the penalty area when Biamou scored three times in the 18 yard area in nearly 50 appearances (and only made 3 assists) is beyond embarrassing

Biamous injury may well save the season for us. Clarke Harris is light years ahead of him even on a bad day

The dimwit on the radio phone in sums up the anti Clarke Harris stuff - he said he’s rubbish and dives to win fouls. When eakin points out getting decisions his way was pivotal in slowing the game down when ahead he just stuttered and said - he falls over. Then he conceding Eakins point that he can hold the ball up well but so what as that don’t matter - adebola did that and he was rubbish as well. Deep sigh from Clive - well Dele didn’t have a bad career - end of the call

Are you related to JCH somewhere along the line Grendel?

You have such a dislike for Biamou who kept JCH out the team at times last season, and your love for him has continued this season despite him being average at best.

He does have good attributes to his game but he also has his downfalls, which probably outweigh the good.

He’s never going to be a prolific goal scorer, but neither was Biamou

ok, so you are obviously counting coming on as sub in Max's 49 appearances last season, and you are saying 3 of his 9 goals were in the box. I can't remember them all so I'll take your word on that.
By the same token, JCH made 22 appearances last season and scored 4, one of which was a penalty. As for the other 3, I remember 2 were in the box (can't remember the other). This season he is 0 from 5 appearances. In what way is he 'light years' ahead of MB? So , no, I'm not really feeling 'embarrassed'.

You're right actually. Neither contribute enough, which brings us back to my question about do we need someone else to partner Chaplin?

I like JCH he is the type of player the opposition hate, he won’t get twenty goals a season but nor would Biamou. I think JCH will get ten goals this season

JCH was excellent today. He was great at leading the line. He worked hard and if Thomas had a right foot would have had an open goal to tap in to. I didn’t think JCH was the type of player that could do what he did today...despite his size. Bodes well.
    I also like max Biamou!

This surely isn't the day to question what he offers the team, he was instrumental today.

Like him or not, JCH was instrumental in getting the wheels back on the track last season.

Why do we persist in knocking our own players? If they play well we say it's an aberration, if they have a bad game we say 'told you he was a waste of space'. Nothing wrong with being critical, but we write players off far too quickly.

I’m going to put a cat amongst the pigeons and say in time Bakayoko will be the partner to Chaplin, he has pace to burn and between them will stretch defences, just give it time.

JCH should have had two against Gillingham and two against Rochdale last weekend. I actually think Biamou getting injured is a huge blessing in disguise as Robins will likely have to play JCH every game.

In my usually wrong with my opinion lol but I find JCH very frustrating watching him get the ball, hold it up, turn his back on players and go down like he has been shot. I like to see players his size run at people, be the first to win a ball in the area when its lofted in and a player who terrorises defenders. He is a big bloke and doesnt use his physical presence.
I can see what Robins is using him for and if the style of play suits us then he is the gaffer and knows more than me. Spectators tend to want players to run, pressurise defenders, and get in the box to win headers etc but often forget the other side of football that benefits players around them.

I'll be honest and say I see see JCH as the Clarke to Chaplins Wilson.

JCH is the one who's going to make the opportunities for Chaplin. He's then going to learn to be in the right place for the tap ins when the keeper saves. We're at the very early stages of this partnership and it will develop.

There is no question that JCH will create goals even if he doesn't directly score or provide an assist.

For me JCH is a typical player who League one or two clubs look to sign. You can pick a player like him up for very cheap or free as you’ve looked at what’s in the locker and see a player is there to bring out. Issue with these types is consistency and getting them to do it for 90 minuets on a match day not just the training ground.

Some players develop, hit form and are sold for a nice profit others become journey men. For me JCH has all the ability but it’s his concentration and application are what let him down. I personally feel he’s more suited to a 4231 formation currently tho not the lead man.

With Biamou’s injury it looks as tho MR is looking to reinvent JCH as a bully boy front man to bring out his aggression which could prove fruitful for the clever Connor Chaplin.

Started poorly. But improved as the game went on. Very important that he holds it up and wins us crucial free kicks!

That’s then ideally where you need Tony Andreu in the side tho to capitalise on free kicks around the box or the set pieces are as good to us as a throw in.
