Well it is also our standards as things stand - Godden has scored big in 2 games. Clarke Harris has pretty much scored consistently in most games since he left here and averages 23 goals for them on a full season basis

A few people have said his goals have dried up and that’s just not the case

Whatever his merits or otherwise he’s worth a lot more transfer fee wise than all of our strikers combined and we let him go for free

You can only conclude that Robins wanted him gone. I agree, in hindsight, looks a poor deal, especially if there are no add ons for us. Perhaps indicates how strongly MR wanted him to go.

The BBC site has him down as 3 goals scoring every 194 minutes

Bristol Rovers have lots out injured at the moment - Tom Davies included.
Hopeful of a win. and a plum tie!

Thanks. If you add in his EFL trophy goals that would drop significantly.

Well yes it would be better than Godden and JCH but scoring goals against 17, 18 and 19 year olds has little significance when comparing records at senior level unless he was that age himself

Could definitely see JCH getting a crack at the Championship in this window. Teams down the bottom end will be desperate to try to get in someone who's been scoring consistently over the last 12 months. If he moves on can definitely see Bristol Rovers falling away.

Those games are counted as senior matches though. Anyone who saw the game last season against Arsenal u21 team would know that they can be far from easy games.

They are counted as “other” games and are omitted from most of these stats

The point is we play 44 games this season against senior teams in the league

We have played 1 U21 team

I would rather the striker who is more likely to score against the 22 teams than the 1 team

Always liked JCH as a player, but I get the impression it wasn’t his ability that was the issue. Sometimes a decent player can affect the rest so much he doesn’t add to the overall squad ability. I wouldn’t have him back.

That’s a bit silly. Like writing off Godden hat trick because Wycombe are on a poor run. You can only beat what’s in front of you and the U21 teams are deemed to be of a L1/2 level clearly. I mean when we borrow U21 players from the Prem they tend to be our better ones.

That’s right but the loanees come in and play with a team mostly full of men rather than players their own age

Look at when our 23s played Nuneaton they lost 3-0 it and included youngsters like Drysdale, Williams and Eccles but when called upon for the first team have performed to a decent standard

My point is you can’t start picking and choosing which goals to count. Goddens our penalty taker, Max tends to come on at the end of games, etc etc etc. You’ve just got to take the stats as they are.

It’s the BBC stats tbf which doesn’t count them and I doubt they have a bias towards or against Coventry City strikers

Top Scorers - Coventry City - Football - BBC Sport

I didn’t suggest that. The league stats are what they are, you were asked about cup too which isn’t on the BBC site.

Just always happens with one striker or another. Last year it was “oh Baka had a good twenty minutes so we have to discount that” as I say we could discount Goddens pens or the fact he scored six against teams on poor runs, or whatever.

The stats are the stats. You can’t punish someone for who they scored against.

The cup games are included - FA Cup and League Cup. The EFL trophy isn’t a recognised competition on there

Pedantry aside the point still stands. It’s a first team competition.

And we played an U21 side - we’re not going to play another one this season. Godden has scored 9 all against senior sides

I don’t dispute he’s scored 6 goals but only 3 of them hold any value in the league we’re trying to get promoted from

An U21 side that’s been deemed to be our level. Swindon and Crawley also got 0 points in their group suggesting they’re as bad or worse. Should we discount goals scored in the FA Cup and League Cup against lower league opposition?

Hopefully City put a sell-on clause to the free transfer of JCH!?

I think I read, probably on here, that we did. Hence why there was little/no fee for him.

I didn’t really rate him at all but he’s bagged a few for BR so fair play. I still think he wouldn’t suit our quick passing, high pressing game. He seemed to slow play down every time he got it. Would much prefer Godden of the two (and even Max over JCH still)

I suppose the question is could Biamou go to another L1 club where he’d be a starter week in week out and get similar numbers to Clarke-Harris (and Godden for that matter)

No chance as for “bagged a few” his over 20 in less than a season of games isn’t it?

Much higher average than say Mcnulty in this league
