Personally, I liked JCH. 100% er in all his games, needed someone up front with him tho and I do not think that our players were best suited to his style of play or what MR wanted.

Anything but 100% in all games. He was a maddeningly ineffective player who seemed to spend long periods of many games either invisible or baying petulantly for imaginary free-kicks.

You're probably right he needed to play in a two upfront though. Perhaps his isolation was the cause of his marginal contributions for us.

I thought that JCH did alright for us, on his day he was a good League 1 striker but he was one option amongst many for us this season. Some players click with certain managers and styles of play - in the same way certain managers suit certain clubs and spectacularly fail at others.

My annoyance with JCH (and Ogogo) going in January was that Robins said they were both offered really good wages by Bristol Rovers...well if Rovers have got the money to give them big wage increases, then why aren't we demanding a fee from Bristol to sign them?!

Walsall and Portsmouth didn't let us have Bakayoko or Chaplin for free!

I thought it was that they were on really good wages here so they needed someone to pay them a packet or we would have had to contribute to their wages. As Rovers were able to do that it stopped us having to keep paying their wages for the next year or so. If we'd asked for a fee then they wouldn't have been able to afford the wages so we'd have shot ourselves in the foot.

Reading into it, Robins comments look as if he told JCH he was going to be dropped for Bakayoko after injury and he wanted to move.

The frustrating thing with JCH was that you could tell after his first couple of touches if he was going to have a good game or not. He'd get the ball and fall over a defender then lose an easy pass then that would be it for 90 minutes or he'd muscle someone off the ball and get a shot away and play a nice pass. That was it, too many times it was clear to see he may as well have been substituted after 10 minutes because he wasn't going to turn up for that game.

I liked him as a player, had all the right attributes for a top striker but was just way too inconsistent. He's hit he ground running at Bristol Rovers, maybe that is the wake up call he needed but if your not going to get going in 12 months of being here then its clearly not working out.

He certainly won/bought a lot of free kicks while here as opposed to just falling over.

I wonder what sort of reception he'll get and also when he buys/gets a free-kick?!

Down to how he was managed I feel same with Ogogo JCH this is his club no way he was not motivated here has to come down to the manager not getting the best from him.

I think he's an Arsenal fan. Cov is just where he came through the academy, had no real affinity for the club.

I thought he was a good player for us, but when a player becomes a disruptive influence on the group, they’ve got to go and their talent is irrelevant. So, if the rumours are true, Robins made the right choice.

We’ve done better since he’s gone, and he’s done better at his new club. That’s a win-win deal. Good luck to him.

Our general record is not really different

The rumours oddly only occurred after he left and even more odd the club tried to offload Bakayoko first

I’ve seen more of JCH than Bakayoko and personally preferred JCH at the time. Bakayoko is doing a good job (scoring-wise) at the minute so good for him, and good for us.

I hadn’t heard these rumours that we tried to offload Bakayoko first, where has this come from?

So the club didn't try and offload Bakayoko, as another was interested in him....

Which one is it?
Did City try to offload/get rid/hawk to other clubs....or..was it just another club was interested in buying?

Every player has a price.

They didn't, they spoke to him to ask his thoughts on it and rejected the bid.

They allowed JCH to go for free...

Let's not forget Rovers tried to buy Baka well before they were interested in JCH.

I always said he had all the ingredients to be decent. Looking at the way he's playing with Bristol I suspect it's the first time he's been played as an actual striker rather than a target man. He's got pace and power yet we decided to use him with his back to goal. Maybe a mistake by Robins.

Bit of a Cyrille Regis/Don Mackay situation?

Mackay's middle name is Scrimgeour, according to Wiki.

The system didn't suit him here - he's not a natural target man and isn't brilliant at holding up the ball. He's better suited when he can run at the defence and work the channels with a partner. He's a bit like Bakayoko in that sense, although seems MR thinks he can mould Baka to add that target man string to his bow. Neither are pure hold up men suited to the 1 up front role. I'd suggest Biamou is capable but we've not really seen him outside of a 2 man partnership

Is it? You don’t think that applies to every single other clubs fans and that’s why those players do it? Also, not all fans, just some. Same with everything.

He rejected the offer not the club. Also it’s rather embarrassing now isn’t it given we have given away a player who could well have a 7 figure value in the summer

What does seem slightly odd is that a couple of clubs, including Sunderland, were interested in paying a fee for him. Once those deals fell through, rather than keep him and try again in the summer, we let him go for free.

Let's hope it was with a generous sell-on included!

I doubt it. The decision was laughable. If Clarke Harris scores two at the weekend and Bakayoko fails to find the target Clarke Harris will have more league goals this season than Bakayoko in his whole career

No wonder JCH will go for a big fee then. According to Bakayoko’s wiki page, he’s got 6712 goals just for us...

JCH scored 8 goals in 44 games for us, didn't suit MR's system and has found something that works for him. He was behind Biamou last year and probably would have been again had it not for his injury.

Baka has scored 6 in 29 for us, helps Robins' system and is steadily improving.

Just because JCH is doing well at his new club doesn't mean it was a stupid decision to move him on.

Yeah it was stupid - robins system strangely doesn’t seem to suit any striker. Biamou wasn’t selected as first choice at the start of the season and Clarke Harris started as many games when joining as biamou did last season

Yeah, McNulty, Biamou, Bakayoko and Hiwula have all suffered under Robins' system's .....give ya head a wobble.

Note that I wrote system's and not just system as he's tweeked and learnt how to get the best out of his team over 2 season's.

JCH and to a degree Chaplin(so far) too are/were the exceptions.

JCH was shit for City under Robins, the other's weren't including Chaplin, whom I believe will come good. Do you understand now or will you play dumb as per usual and never admit when you're wrong?

Importantly, Bakayoko has 6 goals @ a strike rate of nearly 1 in 2 games, 190mins per goal.
Chaplin with 7 goals @ 270mins per goal.

Biamou had 5 league goals and 3 assists last season, keep dreaming of you think Bakayoko is an answer - no championship or even league 1 club will look at him

Robins signed mcnulty without who we’d be nowhere. Imagine Bakayoko and Biamou up front last season - we’d be playing Solihull moors

Admittedly I get to very few games these days to have a "week in week out" perspective on JCH

When I did see JCH did look a strong and a higher quality player than rest of team.

I'm not surprised at all that he has done well elsewhere. With many things in life, you just need to have the right environment for yourself and then you can thrive. This is not aimed at Coventry City just generally its true.

Good luck to JCH.

Agree with this. It's like when McGoldrick was here. 1 in 6 record. 22 league games 16 goals in half a season for us.

Inconsistent simple as.

One minute world beater next carpet beater.

What we don’t know is the reason for it.

Could be Robins didn’t get the best out of him but equally a player has a responsibility to play the best every game.

I think he’s now the main man at Rovers which will help. Possibly manager has tuned into what makes JCH tick.

Good luck to him though pleasing that one of our academy is doing well.

Just hope he has a blip on Sunday....
