Put it this way, we had to start Kitching as left back against Luton simply because Dasilva is too short.

JDS is a very good footballer but is exposed by his height. Looked great against small wingers until the opposition bring on a tall right sided player. JDS has been culpable for a lot of our goals conceded this year but so has MVE and every other goalkeeper, defender and midfielder including Jake Bidwell.
JDS cost nothing. There are players in the team who cost way more and are equally poor.

Agree with Clint and Para, the guy is simply too small and not switched on enough, doesn’t know when to stay or to go with his man and isn’t aggressive enough going forwards.

My worry is with our recruitment, who thought “yep that titchy guy with no strength or fight is exactly what we want”?! For the £40 mil+ we’ve spent we’ve honestly had some absolutely shocking recruitment.

Personally feel we should of spent the BTA or Bassette money on Harrison Burrows. We didn’t need the both of them but were crying out for a left back and Peterborough were putting him on a silver platter to us

I wonder if we needed to lose one first.

Not sure about Bassette. Way too early to write him off.

I remember an interview with Darragh Whatshisname and he said he was surprised we hadn't come in for him as he was just Robins' kind of player.

Left back had been a weak position for a good few seasons now. Neither Bidwell or JDS are up to the level and never have been.

Wasn’t saying Bassette is not good, just didn’t feel we needed to sign both Bassette and BTA. Should have been one or the other with the money going to get a LB

Bassette might become a good player. Hes got a lot of pace but needs a lot of flaws ironing out

Also he needs to calm down the aggression and absurd diving

Anything is better than that useless dwarf, to be fair I guess Jack will be moving on being 23 now and not getting regular starts although I always thought he looked decent when he played for us

He was good today for sure. The commentators praised his positional sense at one stage. I thought my telly was on the blink.

Far better as a WB with 3 CH's.
Also helped that 2 CH's were left footed and had previously had spells at LB, so plenty of natural cover, and also Bristol were crap.
But credit where it's due, he had a good game.

Dasilva has a better game but still has lots of worrying moments. If he sees someone else tracking back he just stops running and leaves it to them.

How many crosses did he put in today I don't remember one?

The obvious target defensively as Bristol targetted first 20, he lost every duel in this time . Constantly looks backwards when passing along with throw ins going backwards when advanced in the opposition half along with lack of crosses. His size is his hindrance no doubt and he did link up well with Rudoni after a shaky start. Agree overall that he did indeed play pretty well, mystified why Bristol didn't target the position in the 2nd half.

Helped out by Kitching doing well down his flank.

Was impressed by him. Good to have the option of a wingback and fullback for positions. Issue with a lot of his games is he can’t play in a back four due to the lack of protection.

Perspectives always an interesting thing in football!

I've always thought Dasilvas a technically excellent footballer however it doesn't take a genius to tell your CBs to put 50 yarders on him and he will always struggle.

Needs to play as a wing hack in a back 5 to be effective. Was class today, some of his touches and link up with Rudoni was really nice to watch

Excellent the last couple of games &, as others have said, being in a back 5 with Kitching inside him definitely helps. Binks isn't great positionally in that area.
Let's hope he can kick on because he's had a few false dawns.

I imagine he’d be the best player at the club for Rondo type drills.

For all the talk of him getting dominated in the air, I can only think of a handful of times it’s actually led to anything in a season and half. It’s very different to a centre half getting beaten in the air which results in a free header on goal. It’s much less of a risk for the oppo to continuously win headers near the corner flag.

If we wanted to play a possession based tika taka in the oppos half, I understand the vision of playing da silva.

And this is the conundrum I've spoke about on other threads.
He's one of several players, who is clearly better in a 5 3 2 but the long term goal appears to be a 4 3 3 which seems to suit Wright and EMC, (though as was pointed out you could play Wright through the middle in the former).

Be interesting to see how it plays out, especially if we keep winning.

I thought this about the system yesterday… on the bench we had 3 right wingers (tats, Raphael & Tavares) and we don’t play a right wing.

The defensive improvement was due to Kitching been moved over slightly further to the left after around 15 mins combating the balls in that area, unsure if it was tactical from the bench or Kitching off his own back but it worked

I am obviously not a fan of his but he had a decent game yesterday and was definitely the best of the 2 wing/full backs MVE at some points couldn't be arsed to try and get back when we was under attack which pissed me off enormously !!

Think it was tactical, someone posted on here that they noticed Lampard shouting that instruction to Kitching.

Yeah there was one from MVE in the first half where his man got in behind and he just pointed

We saw what happens when he wins the 5% of ‘aerial duels’ it pings off his head for a second bounce for a ground duel

But on a serious note he did have a very good game yesterday, hopefully he can build on it but it feels like this has been the consensus quite a few times where he’s shown what he can do then goes on a few game run where he looks a calamity, but fingers crossed this time he shows what he can do on a few game run

Absolutely right. All the twinkly footwork leads to bugger all and in the meantime he is a defensive liability. Bidders' charging runs create far more chances.

Da Silva = flatter to deceive

Played really well yesterday and against Sheffield Wednesday. Bet he's the best 5-a-side player at the club although this doesn't mean anything in a normal match, of course.

My cousin told me at the game last week that Chelsea signed Jay and his two brothers as kids from Luton for a reported 1 million which I wasn't aware of:

What happened to the three brothers that signed for Chelsea in 2012 for a combined £1 million

Chelsea signed a trio of brothers from Luton Town in 2012, paying a fee of £1 million.
