Think we must have considered this in the summer with his agent previously being here coming in to the training ground etc?

Perhaps it was a case of we wanted permanent deal whereas City wanted him to go out on loan, and perhaps it wasnt close on the club dealing perspective but maybe Doyle himself had agreed

He would be the perfect partner for Thomas when it comes to skillset, the only issue is where’s the experience as they’re both really young still. Aggressive, strong in the tackle, good in the air, can distribute the ball beautifully, almost like what we thought Binks would be. Which although Binks has been alright he’s not quite been as good as we’d have all hoped, still plenty of room and time to grow though

We had the choice to Loan Doyle or Buy Binks

Doyle was keen on coming back, City were keen on him coming back

We (Austin and Doug) went for Binks

This is why Doyle was so fired up when he returned. He felt passed over for Binks, he really thought he would be coming back

That’s a shocking decision, Doyle is an absolute class act.

I imagine the cost of Doyle in comparison to Binks was the deciding factor, whether he wanted to come or not.

Not much in it at all when you take into account the fee to sign Binks

But Binks we could 'develop and profit' a Doyle loan we cant

Part of why I said Doug won't do loans (as evidenced this last 2 windows). Clear to everyone though his aversion to loans is detrimental to the playing side

We would all take a loan Doyle over permanent Binks until the cows come home

He is and absolutely a better player than Binks. However, I do think Binks can develop into a really good defender so I don’t hate that preference because the Binks deal was decent - €1.8m is a good buy.

@Saddlebrains Robins highly rated Binks so what his involvement in the decision making?

I also would like question both the timeline and narrative because you reported the Doyle interest 4-8 weeks after we signed Binks iirc. So if your info was correct at the time, we were willing to sign Doyle even with Binks and Kitching on the book. Which leads me doubt it was the binary choice being presented.

Yep, borrow Doyle but as soon as the cows come home, sign Binks.

James McConnell, Tyler Morton would be the type of players I'd be happy with.

Without knowing the costs of either deal I don’t see how anyone could say definitively either way. I’m pretty dubious that having Doyle instead of Binks this season would have transformed the team.

and i agree, buying Binks if it came to a similar package to loaning Doyle does make entirely more sense

Clearly Doyle is the better player but i can see exactly why they chose the permanent option of binks instead.

Binks signed 19th June, I was told Doyle was an option on the 25th June, so you're right, but i think that's because Doyle info was given to me then, if that makes sense? That he was an option but we went for Binks. 6 months ago now I can't properly remember ha

If true I am surprised Doyle was willing to come back so much, he got a lot of stick after he signed for Fester last year

Who on earth is going to come in for Kitching and Dasilva. The most likely outgoings for me would have to be Wright, Simms or Sheaf. Not because we want rid, just our most saleable assets. If we’re looking to free up cash to reinvest it’s going to be a slow window. The focus has to be on defence.

We’ll wait until the summer to sell them; selling them in January would be madness.

I don't get why we want Giles. Didn't Robins say he had great attributes but not a footballers brain. Luton moved him on quickly and he can't get in Hulls starting 11. So if 2 sides beneath us in the league don't rate him why on earth would we want him

Morton absolutely. McConnell I know we had lined up but he’s horrendously inexperienced so personally I wouldn’t be so sure.

It makes sense, Binks signing in June would have happened well in advance of that date because as far back as last December/Jan you said if Binks stays beyond the Jan window, he’ll stay.

Whoever said it DA and DK made the decision to go with Binks sounds like there’s been spin applied by whoever passed that particular piece of info on. After all, MR had final sign off on signings. The timelines also suggest Binks was wrapped up before it was known Doyle was available. Given his loan at Leicester, it wasn’t obvious that Man C let him go back to the Championship.

I have no counter-ITK reference but pretty certain I’ve remembered what you’ve (/your source) said on this.

“MR had the final sign off” doesn’t actually mean much if he can only choose from what’s put in front of him. If Doug says no it’s Binks or nothing those are the managers choices.

Also why are we still going with this when even Lampard says the same?

“I will have my opinions and we will work together” sure doesn’t sound like “I have the final say”

Of course it was worded that Robins brought in who he wanted.

I still think the talks with Lampard took so long as he wanted more of a say than were presented to him when negotiations started. Lampard can't risk failing with us. And he will have a much better idea on what and who is needed more than those who have recently been making the decisions.

Oh well then there’s no difference between all management and owner situations ever. Just a binary “full control or not”.

Come on people. At some point you’ve got to accept the evidence in front of your eyes that King Austin and Robert’s have a significant say in on the pitch matters. They keep saying they do and this place keeps inventing conspiracy theories to explain why actually they’re lying.

This sounds conspiratorial. Both MR and Dean Austin are on record that MR sets the profile he wants, Austin finds players, gives a shortlist to MR, MR takes his fancy from the options provided and Austin requests money from DK. This is simplified of course.

The process isn’t MR sees new players rock up at the photo opportunity when the new player has signed.

Robins is a legend but this idea that he was systemically undermined is fanciful. He got all the plaudits for the great work he did but when things got worse, he couldn’t turn the tide in the time given!

Robins got sacked because we were fucking shite just as any manager would. Also some of the more dubious big money signings were the ones 100% chased by Robins. Need to let this go at some point, its boring.

By the same logic, he also isn’t being undermined which is the kind of thing that’s been insinuated several times. Be it certain signings, coaching hires/fires, coaching structure and much more.

That quote is the most innocuous thing to say in the context and being twisted to justify this idea that the club hierarchy is undermining the manager/HC.

Isn’t his contract up at the end of the season? A club will likely just to take on the final six months of his contract, it’s what he needs.
