We play 2 holding midfielders … ahead of Eccles are Sheaf, Grimes, Allen, and Torp.

He therefore needs all 3 of those to lose form, get injured, suspended for him to start.

I think Frank prefers Lati as cover at Right back.

Amazing isn't it, fans banging on about we need this player and that player and how we lack cover in midfield. We sign a player and all of a sudden Allen and Eccles are surplus to requirements.

We can’t just collect players we have to sell some too. It makes sense to sell your 5/6th choice midfielder ahead of other positions with less cover.

We play a flat three with a six and two eights. Lats is playing CB.

If I am honest, I am not expecting any more incomings other than maybe Jamie Paterson signing a short term deal. I think a few fringe players will go out on loan or get sold though. Looking forward to being happily surprised

I know Lati is playing CH because MVE is playing ! my point is that should MVE not be available I think he will ask a defender ( Lati ) to cover.

He's not played there for a long time. And still think we're going back to a 4 back once players are fit again.

Id be surprised if we change what’s working TBH. I’m not sure it’s relevant how long it’s been since we used him we’ve played 4ATB the last season and a half mostly and had MvE available.

Lats isn’t mobile enough for RWB really. Why not just play the guy who has played there? I don’t understand the desperation to ship him out.

They aren't 5th or 6th choice in certain positions though are they. It's not unusual for us to sub two midfielders per game.

Allen and Eccles are both experienced players and fans say we have lacked experience? Although I have not always bought into that theory for our early season lack of form.

Pretty sure since Lati has joined he's been the backup RWB anyway. I actually would prefer Eccles there just based on his pace, but suspect Lati would be used.

The fee generated from him could be used partly to recruit a new RB

It’s possible our starting 3 when fit will be Sheaf, Grimes and Rudi.

They can take off Sheaf and Grimes and currently Frank would then bring on Torp and Allen ahead off Eccles.

If you had to raise funds to buy Grimes who would you sell ? Don’t say Collins or JDS as its clear their currently isn’t a buyer for either and you wouldn’t get close to £4m.

If at the start of the window somebody would have said nothing major out and Grimes in I would have snapped their hand off.

Jamie Allen is 30, and not sure of his consistency. He's strung a few good performances together, but he hasn't been played regularly in the past because he's been ineffective.

Sheaf has had persistent interest from other clubs, and is beginning to have an unmanageable injury record.

I'd have Eccles as 4/5th choice if it came to the end of the season and decisions had to be made.

Definitely agree.

Although at the start of the window lots were saying the squad isn't good enough, lacks character, leadership etc. so I assume those people are devastated.

Is he even that good? Not heard from him much since he scored against Tottenham 3 years ago

Suppose Anorim doesn't play wingers which wouldn't have helped him much

I really like Eccles but there's absolutely no way we'd get £5-6m for him .

Half that at best.

Lati was brought in to be a CB iirc, albeit in a back 3 and a player that can cover RB and LB if required. It was Sakamoto who was brought in to be a RWB behind MVE and a general utility player (has played RW, LW and AM previously).

That said, Robins and AV did say that they were thinking about changing to the 4-2-3-1 system back then but the recruitment that summer was with the existing system in mind, 3-4-1-2. Hence the total lack of wingers!
