Grimes must be a big cost to our wage bill. Maybe he was a back up if we couldn’t get this deal over the line

Well Chelsea have said they won't loan anyone out until the end of the window as they may have to use the players as makeweights in transfers.

I’m not sure I buy this.

IF it’s true that Frank met him in London then his agent and the player must have indicated to Austin that a deal within our financial parameters could be possible.

Without that Frank would not be meeting anyone.

Things like the Grimes transfer don't happen over night do they, makes you wonder if there is more to come following the deal that broke down for Matondo too.

It's the detail of loaning him back for the remainder of the season that will be delaying the move

Radically different styles of player though, either it shows a certain level of flexibility or the club are searching for both defensive and attacking midfielders.

may have already been mentioned, but Watford are close to signing Kelechi Iheanacho on loan - if BTA is on the way out, and Sevilla cover a large proportion of wages, he wouldn’t be a bad replacement…would he?

Other than Grimes I don't think we will see anything else in wise apart from a Chelsea loan that may pop up last minute

BTA still attracting interest, doesn't look like anyone wants Collins or Tavares

If clubs are relying on stats, nobody is going to pick up Tavares because hasn't got any to speak of. I think he has enough to cut at L1 but there no recent form to look at barring a few short cameos

I’d rather keep BTA than get in a Chelsea loan

Tavares not even playing in u21 games recently. If there isn't a potential loan lined up for him, something doesn't feel right.

He's not playing u21 games because he's making the first team bench.

Said it before, his wages will be far more than any League 2 club could afford. Wouldn’t be able to justify paying it either because of his lack of games. League 1 clubs may be interested but again none that would take the risk.

Don’t think he will be on a lot here but he did get a new contract a couple years ago so think he will see that out.

Tavares is 24. He should take a cut for the sake of his career

It’s very odd. As he won’t be on life changing for us also.

Would it not be better for all parties if we paid it up or substantially subsidised a loan to recoup at least some money back?

Champ wages are about 4x L1 so it’s quite a drop.

The loaning club do not have to pay his full wages or even a % of it. I can't believe for one second that we are asking clubs to cover much of his wages. Whats the point? He's not playing here but receiving his wage whilst his value (if he actually has any) decreases.

Surely a League 1 or 2 team would take him on reduced or free wages? I maybe wrong, but it feels like he is happy to take his salary and not put much effort into finding somewhere to play.

I actually think Tavares might benefit from staying with us this season. He has a certain mystery about him that might make a half decent league 1 club take a chance but we don't even know if he's that good in reality. It's hard to believe he's been here so long.

Tavares is not going to be on a Championship player's average wage, he was a cheap punt

He’s not but it’s going to be more than teams are willing to part with - especially because he literally has no experience.

How many games has Tavares played or even come on as a CF. We saw quite a lot of him last season as a RWF which clearly he isn’t, but did OK. I’m not saying he’s good enough at all, but would be interesting to see him play up front with a partner. Never known such an unused player.
