Why would we and have players out of position if what we are doing now is working?

It's not as if what we are doing isn't getting results.

Depends on if you think we need results or the squad needs time to get used to a system for next season. If we’re losing BTA someone has to come in anyway until Wright it EMC comes back. Maybe a 541 as I said earlier but at that point may as well reach your back four to defend.

Where has the news come from that he's put in a transfer request? If it's reliable then that is a huge positive.

Proof will be in the pudding I guess

Sheaf will be managed better for sure (no more injections and playing 90 mins while carrying an injury) but if he's fully fit he plays

I think people are missing the point with Grimes. He’s here to play in Sheafs role.
If we play them both in CDM then we will have the same problem as when we had both Eccles and sheaf there, no dynamism.

Either sheaf or grimes will play

Didn’t we play Hamer and Sheaf together? It’s not necessarily an either/or situation.

If Sheaf is unwilling to sign a contract in the summer, we’ll have to sell him. It’s not likely we’ll sell him this window because he’s injured. So for at least 10-15 games in the season, we’ll have both players available.

A championship midfielder wants to play under one of the best midfielders in the world on Lampard. Simple

Hamer is an 8 not a 6 like grimes. Totally different player profiles

Correct but imagine after that Norwich loss being told 4 games later we are in the FA Cup fourth round, won 3 in a row in the league and got both Sheaf and Grimes available for our midfield....

From what I'm told this is with Sheaf leaving in mind

However

Due to his poor form and Injuries this season, the club and Sheaf are not really expecting the big bucks bids we thought we would get (8 million plus)

I still think Sheaf goes in the summer, but Its not beyond the realm of possibility he signs a 1 year extension. The season both he and the club thought he would have hasn't materialised.

If we can shift Milan for the 10 million plus that we want, and with Vik inevitably leaving Sporting thats still a war chest without cashing in on Sheaf.

We would only really need to replace Milan, get an experienced CB and a decent LB and we would be good to go you'd assume

That's without the likes of the out of contracts wages being reinvested

If BTA leaves possibly another striker and maybe a renewal for Allen too. Lampard seems keen on signing a winger too.

The strongest position Frank will be in for next season (if we don’t get promoted this season) is a few additions and we have a team that is already gelled. Exciting times.

It seems so, i heard about the talks with the CM and RB about a week before the window, so they've obviously been working through things for a long time. When we establish a good relationship like this, they tend to eventually get done.
Whereas we've seen in the summer, when the clubs agree the fee first, the talks can then break down. This is why i'm of the opinion that the player must be keen.
Fair enough the RB talks looks to have broken down, that's football, but this one seems strong.

We played Sheaf and Eccles together too, it’s not really fixed.

The profile we actually need from a perspective player is long range passing and a ball carrier in midfield. That’s what Grimes offers so imo, would slot in nicely alongside Sheaf.

Interested to know where we see Sakamoto next summer. Thoughts of extending his deal or letting it run out?

Would extend as we only have one player who plays on the right wing. Maybe try and get Poku for a free in the summer?

I was just referring to what i was told at the start of the window. That we had been in ongoing talks with a RB and CM, it seems as though the RB talks have broken down by what i was told Saturday, but the CM ones were still going strong.

He needs to have more confidence to shoot or take players on
He had lots of energy on Saturday when he came on and won the free kick for what proved to be the winner

I thought he looked like a breath of fresh air last season until his injury. Seemed to offer something different and could take a defender on, sometimes making them look very silly. I also thought his work rate was phenomenal and made things a lot easier for MvE.

After that injury I feel like he's struggled, and I think many are in agreement with that. He's still got more than enough there for me to feel like extending his contract is worthwhile though. I hope we do, and I really hope he can get back to his best, because he was a menace at times.

Famous last words from me but I don't think he goes this summer

We have a year option in our favour we can trigger for a start. However I see a lot of people saying he will want a move to get in the USA Squad.

There's no guarantee if he moves to a higher level that he will do any good. Whereas here, he can be a 20 plus goal a season striker piece of piss and guarantee his place in the USA World Cup squad that way

We finished 9th last season and Grimes is more like Hamer than Eccles, if you want to build a profile of the two.

Could potentially play grimes and sheaf together in a 4231 or even a 433 , give more freedom to fullbacks , but where does that leave torp and rudoni ? Both need to be playing for me

Sargent has been in this league for a while now hasn't he? I don't think its affected his international career too much.

Is it likely that Grimes is a KP replacement or are they too different in their positions?
