They’ve shown a real ambition to get out this league this season.

“Certainly! Here’s a grammatical breakdown:

1. Clause Structure:

• The sentence contains a main clause: “I’m hoping we can keep winning games” and a compound conditional clause: “but if we can and if they’re the right players.”

• The word “if” introduces two subordinate conditional clauses:

• “if we can”

• “if they’re the right players.”

2. Ellipsis:

• In the first conditional clause (“if we can”), the predicate “keep winning games” is omitted but implied from the earlier main clause.
• This is an example of ellipsis, where part of the sentence is left out because it is understood from the context. Without ellipsis, the sentence would read:

“I’m hoping we can keep winning games, but if we can keep winning games and if they’re the right players.”

3. Reference and Cohesion:
• The pronoun “we” in “if we can” refers to the same subject as the main clause (“we” in “we can keep winning games”).
• The modal verb “can” expresses ability or possibility, and its meaning is tied to the omitted action “keep winning games.”

In summary, “if we can” is a conditional clause with an implied predicate (“keep winning games”) that relies on ellipsis for conciseness. It derives its meaning from the main clause.”

That’s all very well but the modal verb “can” is in front of the predicate “keep winning games”.

So it’s offside.

Apologies if already posted but this suprised me, only two or three upgrades on what we have within the league for progressive midfielders, might be why we’re prioritising elsewhere?

Meh, Akpom has had one good season in his career. Think Boro did well to sell him for as much as they did personally.

May be wrong but don't expect him to light up the league coming back.

I’m sure people said that when they signed Will Grigg for £5m in League 1.

But it could all backfire. They could make the playoffs and not go up then what? Sell some of the better players and start again

My son's second team, not that he's even fully aware that we are his first team yet. Would be a good move for him tbf, think he'd do well, but would want a good £12 million +

Whittaker is a lot younger tbf, and a far more explosive player than Akpom.

yeah, they have been after him all window but have not yet posted a offer anywhere near what we want according to the ITKs

unlikely to sell now unless it is an unbelievably good offer

When it really mattered, e.g. in the play off games vs us, he just did not deliver.

I still think of him as a young player but he's 29

Only thing with Morgan is his attitude. Not saying Akpom is better but refusing to turn up is unforgivable.

In fairness though it is true that Sunderland are showing ambition, and why not? It's there for the taking for them. They got a good fee for Jack Clarke too.

This looks like they’re taking the next steps to understand financial demands for wages and transfer fee.

Whittaker is a very talented player but whoever advised him not to turn up is certainly not helping his career.
Hopefully learns and regrets what he's done
