I don't doubt your recollections, but Spider was a superb and reliable left back from a defensive point of view, and his popularity was justified. I doubt if he ever scored a goal though (I can't recall one) and I imagine he had very few assists. Those stats probably weren't gathered in those days.I'm with you with the memory thing, so I can't be trusted that far back. However, I do remember (correctly hopefully), Cattlin getting a lot of stick then there was something in the Telegraph saying his nickname was Spider. Suddenly, everybody thought he was brilliant and he responded accordingly.

Yes but the improvement from when he first joined to when he left us was vast. Bearing in mind the play off season he was carrying an injury near the end. Small margins, but if he had been fully fit and Gus didn't get injured against Luton, it may have been a different outcome.I mean technically Viks goal per minute ratio has shot through the roof since leaving us
