A deal can be struck, but official papers cannot be signed etc, SP mentioned last week that such deals can be done.

Just spoke to a mate of mine who's a massive Exeter fan, (i live in Devon, at the moment anyway) and he says that Reid is one of their best players, and it will kick of dwn here if he goes lol. Sounds a promising player, which kills all hope of us signing him.

Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale says he was right to give young striker Jamie Reid his first start.
The 18-year-old scored both of the club's goals in their 2-2 draw at AFC Wimbledon in just his second game.
"He was so positive that it really shows that the selection was par for the course," Tisdale said.
"He can be hit and miss because he's young and learning his game, but he's capable of those type of strikes," Tisdale told BBC Radio Devon.
And Tisdale says Reid, who has come up through the club's academy, was shocked when he was named in the starting line-up.
"When I announced the side in the dressing room you should have seen the look on his face.
"He wasn't expecting to play and not many people in our group were, I hadn't named the side until 1.30," Tisdale added.

My mate also said that Exeter hav just let their top two strikers go, and Reid just broke into the first team last year and they are expecting to see more of him this year. He said he would be very shocked if he left.

If it weren't for his injuries, and probably wages we can't afford this year. I'd fully agree, thought he always gave 110%

What's his primary aim? To score goals, his goal scoring record was average at best, that alone justifies releasing him, then take into account his injuries and wages, it was a no-brainer.

I agree to an extent SBT but also I thought until SE got injured SE and Leon were forming a really good partnership and SE had looked dangerous before his injury, worked hard for the team as well..

The fans gave Elliott the Deegan treatment, building up his ability because he was injured. He could barely control a football!

My mate who works @ City told me today that we are close to signing Exeter and Northern Ireland U/21 striker Jamie Reid, don't know a great deal about him but he can't be all that bad playing for N Ireland at u/21 level.

What do you think or does anyone know much about him?

My mum could probably get into the N Ireland U21 team

I disagree, my evidence? Clarke's goal scoring record after Elliott's injury, shows that Clarke can play upfront on his own and that Elliott was having a free ride.

I am not suggesting Clarke can't play up top on his own, although I think that we benefitted from having SE up at the top with Clarke as they complimented each other.. Personal opinion..

There wasn't a point last season (aside from the brief LC/DM over-lap) when he wasn't our second best striker. I thought he had a much better all-round game than our other forwards and he was stunningly unlucky with hitting the woodwork.

Next season, our second best striker is unlikely to come close to his standard.

To be fair, he did say apart from the McG/Clarke overlap.

No, but we can argue about whether we should have kept the players we did have

Nope, this here very board, people went OTT about essentially a very average striker even at this level. I remember posts from people saying we should drop him for Clarke.

I actually doubted many who rated him on here went to the games. He was living off his 2 goals at MK Dons in a lot of City fans eyes in my opinion.

The "unlucky with hitting the wordwork" is a nonsense as well, you don't get half a goal for hitting the post.

Just because we had other shit strikers on the books or a lack of strikers doesn't mean he was any good. I'd rather see his wages spent on someone else.

Ah well, he's gone now. We move on, so does he. Couldn't ever fault his work rate, just think we can do better (if and when we come out of the embargo and Pressley uses the wages wisely).

There's a point, if a player is out of contract during an embargo can you extend his contract? :thinking about:

He was on the bench most of the time and i just thought he kept the ball well and never misplaced many passes. I'll even stick my neck out and say he was one of my favourite players for cov last season and am gutted we released him. You just seem to be comparing him to clarke and mcg who are out and out strikers, elliot played better just off them.
