Some of you are really damaged from the SISU years to think 400k is a lot for a Championship to Championship transfer. Shows what a farce it all was.

I don’t think it’s a massive fee. But I also don’t think it’s great value for money.

Considering Godden cost 750k and Conor Chaplin cost 500k it’s a good bit of business for a proven championship player

Mate it's nothing for a player who could potentially play for us a fair bit with O'Hare out. Although I tend to think we'll be smarter than just chucking 400k at them, we're used to sniffing around the bargain basement and I think if we want him we'll get a good deal.

To be fair, he's having a poor season, can't get in the Swansea team and their fans want rid despite what he did last season. Waghorn is a proven championship player, but his best days are past him. Patterson is only a year younger.

If you judge him on this season performances the £400k is a lot of money.

He had a great season with Swansea, 9 goals and 9 assists in 38 games, but he’s recently fallen out of favour with Swanseas manager (since the infamous 3-3 draw at the CBS in fact), so perhaps that denotes a falling out (considering he can’t get in the match day squad) rather than his legs have gone.

If he comes and does a job, great. There’s always the chance though, that he’s past it at 32.

His career trajectory does appear at first glance to be, as the French say, "a little Waghornesque".

I thought the plan was buy low, develop and sell high. Fair enough if it isn’t

Who's plan? I mean ideally yes we need to do a fair bit of that but we are allowed older players too you realise?

Really not sure about this. A fee, high wages, and not performed for over a season, plus seemingly attitude issues.

I’d hope no more than a year and a half deal with an option if it does happen.

You confuse me. Is committing a 7 figure sum of money to this player a good idea or not?

Off topic; can anyone tell me which home game this season was the memorial match?

Oddly players cost more at this level if you want to compete at this level

we spent £150,000 on Adam Barton and paid £125,000 for Clarke Harris to loan him in league two for 6 months so I don’t really understand your context. We’ve just been purchased so I’d hope within his plan we can pay half the fee we paid for Godden

Do you think a £400,000 transfer fee represents good value for Paterson? Considering his age and his form, I’m struggling to see why we should pay that much for a player who moved on a free transfer at the start of last season. I know he signed a new contract with Swansea but he’s not really in the picture there anymore. Typically we only have enough leeway to sign one or two players a year at this price point so he’d better be good.

In the grand scheme of things 400k is nothing considering me paid 750k for godden in league one.

Cov lad, supports the city. Give him that extra incentive to do well. Think it’s a good signing all things considered with O Hare out.

That bit is irrelevant. We signed O'Hare for nothing. Does that mean we shouldn't get a fee for any sale?

Correct - which is why I prefaced it with “Considering his age and form”

It depends if he was out of favour, deemed deadwood and we were looking to to offload him off the wage bill. You're comparing apples with oranges.

I'm not comparing the players ability wise; I'm just saying that because a team signed someone for free that you shouldn't necessarily expect to buy them for nothing if they are under contract

No one's saying we shouldn't pay a fee for him, but £400k is a lot given his age and form and the fact they want rid. Especially as money is still scarce. Robins basically just on the radio that the take over hasn't given us any more funds.

If so, where has the £400k come from? Not doubting him/you? Do we even know if the £400k figure is real?

400k on someone to develop at this level would probably get you a Tavares.

If it is, I highly doubt it's all up front. Headline figures rarely are. Will include add ons for appearances, goals, etc.

It’s come from a fairly obviously fake account, so the controversy is a bit silly. The fact that people think £400k counts as a “nominal fee” for a club that was selling first team players just to keep the lights on a few months ago is pretty funny though.

It’s a nominal fee for most championship clubs which we are, we have a new owner which gives us what robins said stability.

the fee appears to be 250k up front with add ons. At this level that is the going rate for players like Paterson

We paid a fee for Palmer - no idea what it was but his wages to date will be £300k plus.

He’s 31. Waghorn was 31 and we didn’t even pay a fee. Such a similar story - was good but now on a downward trajectory

What’s that definition of madness? Making the same mistake over and over and hoping for a different result?

Please let’s not have another Beavon / Waghorn and FFS not pay any money.

There’s nothing to suggest the Palmer fee was anything like £400k, and regardless, we were having to sell Hyam in order to stave off administration just a few weeks later anyway. What’s changed since then that means we can now throw around £400k on “nominal” transfer fees? Do you think Doug King is that rich?

I have no evidence we had to sell Hyam to stave of administration- I have no idea what fee we paid for palmer

What was the fee?

Neither of us know the Palmer fee, but having to stage a Dom Hyam fire sale on deadline day to keep the lights on (as has been widely reported on here) suggests we weren’t exactly swimming in cash to throw around last summer.

But nevermind, clearly you think we’re in a much better place now. £400k is good value for Paterson in your eyes I presume?

I have no idea why you keep blathering on. It’s good value if it works as it’s a drop in the ocean - we have released Kane and Waghorn and you would assume they are costing more than the two loans

The fact we currently have zero players at all we can even use off the bench tells me we are in some trouble - our wage bill will be hugely reduced in June when so we have more than enough opportunity to start again

You of course have long touted the view Gyokeres should be moved on - given he accounts for half our pathetic goal tally thats a plan even Baldrick would find less than cunning

Who will we get on a free then that’s even half as good?
