Yeah ultimately the only thing we can conclude about Palmer so far is he has the skill to maybe be worth his signing, but he hasn't justified his cost so far, so a maybe seems fair, could go either way.

I think Palmer has been a great signing. He had barely played the season before, so it would always take half a season until he's up to speed. He's been bright in every game I've seen him, could of scored more perhaps. A front 3 of Patterson, Palmer & Vik could be very fruitful.

He wasn’t a first team signing. Neither was Reid really. Seems the U23 transfers were done entirely separately.

So how does that make him a great signing to date, if you're acknowledging that he's not shown whether he's a great signning or not yet?

Would also be interesting to look at how many of the young players bought in for development have progressed. Hyam more or less came straight into the match day squad, and Tavares has had some game time, but a lot have not made it.

Wonder if that’s why there’s been a change in the recruitment department.

Wasn’t Hyam initially in and out of the league two side? I thought Rod McDonald and Willis was the initial paring and then he favoured Willis and Davies until the final when Davies was suspended?

Because he was making an impact even when not playing every game. Let's see come May this season, I think it will be clear he was an astute signing. He clearly likes being here, and is being managed correctly.

Cant believe there's a thread 11 pages long slagging off the potential signing of a 31 year old with great championship stats , mental

Current team status. Palmer is 0.5 as he’s not playing every game really and will likely be dropped if we sign Paterson. Moore has been poor since New Year last season and was dropped by the end of the season. He’s obviously not got a future here same as Walker. Which matters when you’re talking about a three year deal we can’t get out of. Say what you want about Hilsner and Dacosta but their deals won’t have cost us as much by a long shot.

Bidwell is the only signing we’ve really made with Championship experience who has consistently kept his place ahead of others from lower League. And even he might be for the chop if this new lad is any good. And was largely second fiddle to Maatsen.

Outside of Hamer pretty much all our successful signings have been players from Prem U23s.
So, what you are heavily implying is that signings are only positive if they are 100% starters? Palmer is contributing whether he starts or comes off the bench. If Bidwell is dropped to the bench, our squad options are significantly stronger. You are exaggerating Moore because you didn't like what you saw in a pre-season friendly and never dropped it. All of those players have contributed so much more per £ than Hilsner or DaCosta so that point is null and void. You are making it out to be so much worse than it is.

It happens with a lot of signings a ‘ ‘mates mothers uncle’ who supports the selling club says he is useless, the signing of Bidwell a good example. I get the feeling there’s disappointment from some on here if the player proves to be okay.

I'm not sure his stats are quite as good as some make out, but they are certainly better than anything we have got at the moment. I think it's worth taking a chance on him, but in general we need to add more goals to the team. It's awfully light in that area.

Moore is currently unable to get ahead of Wilson. Wilson who has never been a number one in his career and of you’re honest is miles below what we need.

If a signing is dropped and moved on at the first opportunity then yeah I’d say they’re not a success. Because they’re not impacting the team from the training ground or on loan elsewhere.

Players with Championship experience tend to have higher wage expectations and often some reason they’ve been let go elsewhere that reappear with us. It’s no coincidence that our most successful signings come looking to make a name for themselves at this level.

I like Palmer a lot, I think he’s a very talented player but the same reasons he hasn’t made it elsewhere are why he’s a 0.5 and not a 1 right now: doesn’t seem to be able to do it over 90 mins. Signing players and hoping you’ll be the one to fix them is always a massive gamble. Moore, Kane, Bidwell, Walker were all dropped or not selected at this level for a reason.

I’d much rather gamble £1m on a Prem kid or a League One star than essentially the same on a player who has been around the block at the level. What we need is leadership more than experience. And that can come from anywhere.

Gyökeres was failing to be picked by the same team that is now not picking Paterson.

Sheaf had spent a season in League One w Doncaster, OHare was in League Two w Carlisle, Walker played more for Lincoln in League One than for Forest in the Championship.

I’m not sure you can call any of them Premiership players

Was Bidwell’s ability related to how much we paid for him, ie nothing?

Nearly as good as Wilson with crosses.
Not allowed to speak to Sandra Garlick.

I love the way every transfer window, someone defrosts their Agent Harriot Twitter account ready for mischief. Some dedication to being a social media shithouse.

the main reason we won't sign him is he hasn't got a double barreled name, we're only after those players now, like our new wb's and there's also Brereton-Dias and Harwood-Bellis.
Before we had mostly Jordans, but we've opened up the criteria and we now have two Callums, two Bens, two Joshs, so we could do with another Kyle (Hudlin)? another Viktor and a Gus would be ok too.
If we do get Patterson, we'd have two Jamies so a balance would be struck.
Obviously, I'm having a laugh, (for those who are so serious).

400k for a 31 year old championship proven goalscoring attacking midfielder who assists just as many as he scores ... with 18 months left on his contract ?

No brainer

His stats are on par with ilias chair at this level who I'm sure most city fans would love to have here but would cost a few million
