Like a lot of posters on here I get things badly wrong (Lampard as vanity appointment), but I have consistently championed Allen. Loads of people wanted to get rid for several seasons now. Or good to keep as a squad player many have said.
I have seen him bullied off the ball in odd games but overall he rarely lets the team down.
He was poor against Leeds but the whole team were poor.
Most games he does well.

I said on another thread somewhere on here and got the usual 'I'm stirring shit' comments, but there is a frustration with these 'niggles' from within the club also

Lampard made a point of stating Josh Eccles carried on with his knock as he wants to do what he can for the team, Sheaf on the other hand feels a twinge or soreness etc and immediately he's unavailable unless he feels alright

Was also what was the source of the rumours at Sunderland away where I and others were told he 'didn't fancy it'.

Now again, I reiterate im a huge (less now tbh) Ben Sheaf fan, but we are at the stage now where unless he is fully fit and putting in performances worthy of club captain, for what we hope are 11 games to get us to the promised land, then it's right for him aswell as us as a club that he moves on

Problem is he's consistently missed a quarter to a third of a season since we had him, this season over half

It's gotten to the point where he's not worth it anymore. And I say that as a massive Sheaf fan.

We will be offloading him in the summer after triggering his extra year, but we wont get anywhere north of 6 million (we want 6 apparently, and with Vik certain to move this summer that will give is around 12 million to throw around and hopefully keep Milan and Haji)

Hope it’s more a mental concern about his body breaking than him not wanting to play.

But heard similar noises re Sunderland away. Initially dismissed it as just couldn’t believe it.

shame as this season really harmed him.

You might be right about it bring a mental thing.
But either way, I doubt he'll be here next season and I'll personally be glad to see him gone.

This is it

August he was made club captain, club said you're the lynchpin, you get us up the premier league, or you can go with our best wishes to the promised land next summer

Fast forward 9 months, his best chance of being in the Premier league is with us. If we do manage it, we'd have basically done it without him, he's slipped to 4th in the CM pecking order, and any ideas he had about joining a Premier league side this summer outside of us have absolutely gone, and he knows it

So yes, could well be a mental thing, but if so, for want of a better expression, grow up and get on with it, show what you've got instead of what's happening currently

I've not said he'd fake an injury. I'm saying he has little knocks and niggles, and they seem to keep him out, whilst multiple other players with knocks play on and give their all for the side, Lampard himself has publicly said this

He's been poor when he has played.
I'd actually disagree with your list and switch him to 5th and Eccles to 4th.

Bit of bickering in this thread (shock) so made me think about our midfield

And amazingly, for me anyway, I had Sheaf as the 4th choice out of 5. Prepared for pelters of course But how I would rank them in order of importance to us now

Grimes
Rudoni
Torp
Allen
Sheaf
Eccles
I don't disagree, but (there's always a but) your comparing a Sheaf who's struggled with injuries of late and hasn't hit form, with Jamie Allen who has just had (arguably) his best ever game in a sky blue shirt.

If all are fit and on form I'd have
Rudoni
Grimes
Sheaf
Torp
Allen
Eccles

Either way it's just great to have strength in depth and quality options available for a change.

Will just add that Torp could end the season higher up that list if he continues to impress.

Agree. Sadly it’s probably best for both.

we should still remember him very fondly, played circa 150 times for us and another big part of the comeback.

Well that's why I was asking about the inverted commas around 'knocks' and 'niggles', which suggest you believe there's something else going on.

Obviously Sheaf is less valuable to us if he is prone to injury. And I agree it would be great if a player can get injured and just play through it. But if he can't, is that because he refuses to "give his all"? It's quite a serious allegation!

The other thing is, we made a trading loss this year but a profit based on player sales.
If we need to make another sale this year to balance the books he's the the loss we can absorb the most given we have a decent midfield pool.

Come on mate, there’s absolutely no chance In a million years he’s deliberately refusing to play. He’s come back from a long injury and any ‘knock’ he has needs to be treated with precaution. The stuff regarding not playing against Sunderland was just shit stirring bollocks from whoever made it up. Bizarre the hate sheaf is getting

I don’t see any hate towards sheaf on this post.

Just simple opinions that Grimes, Rudoni and Torp (and possibly Allen) are now more valuable to us in both performance and fitness wise.

Maybe best for all parties for Sheaf to leave in the summer.

Don’t think SB is saying he’s “refusing” to play, it’s he’s saying sheaf constantly saying he’s not fit enough to play because he has a knock, niggle etc etc. (players will always have knocks and niggles)

slightly different to just simply saying, na im
Not playing at Sunderland tomorrow. Sheaf pulled out on the morning of that game….

Of course some of the hate is just rubbish frankly, but there’s certainly frustration with his durability and want to play through pain. Which of course he is likely feeling vulnerable about given past history.

it’s naturally probably coming to an end in the summer, shame, but wish him nothing but the best, great player when fully fit and and at it.

And of course he can still have massive say in our season outcome, alot of football left yet…….

If he’s as soft as you say why don’t you go and ‘kick fuck’ out of him like you threatened to do. Would be very funny to see you try.

The rumour was that Sheaf was playing with injections until he blew up af the Norwich game. Not good for the long term and makes sense as to why he's not prepared to risk it at the moment. So disappointing and irritating

Went as far back as a single screenshot would allow. I think you could have picked a random out the crowd and they would have put in a 7/10 that game. The Plymouth players had been on the piss.

Looks like I am going to be disappointed.

He's been involved in 50% of our games this season. Really not good enough.

Think it's best he moves on, for him and us. After all, he wanted to go last Summer anyway and I'm sure he would have gone this coming summer if he'd had a good season.

No I wouldn’t

Many people don’t want to go to work because they ‘don’t fancy it’

Id be disappointed from a supporter perspective but bigger things in the world going on to hate someone for that.

Injuries are part of football and cruelly affect some more than others.

Don’t think for a second Sheaf would back out of a game that he felt he could positively contribute to.

If we go up this year I think we’ll need that Ben Sheaf at some point.

Agreed. When fit and firing there isn't much better in this league, the problem is he's hardly ever at peak fitness and quality
